Beer Name: Melvin the Mammoth
Style: Theoretical Barleywine
ABV: 8.0%
IBU: 57
Color: A brooding deep amber
Cheese Pairing: Regular ol' goat cheese. A whole log of it.
Food Pairing: A meatball the size of a tennis ball, served with lots of good parmesan
Music Pairing (Jimbo's Choice): "Civilized Worm" by the Melvins
Music Pairing (Jared's Choice): "Bar-X the Rocking M" by the Melvins or "Jesus Built My Hotrod" by Ministry
Best Occasion to Drink: While hatching plans
Brewers' Notes: for this, our 250th batch, we wanted to do something big and sort of silly, since it's kind of a silly milestone (all of our previous -50 milestone beers have been big ol' hoppy things, but we've got enough of those on the menu right now), so we dusted off a recipe that we've been wantin' to brew whose working title was "Big Stupid Barleywine" and we got cookin'! We'll spare you the details, but the brewdays for this beer (we made a double batch) could rightly be called "needlessly labor-and-time-intensive" but that ain't worry us because we're in it to win it no matter what! Anyway, we made this big ol' beer with the intention of aging most of it and/or using it in fun barrel projects, but we were lured in by the siren song of caramel (from the longass boil) and banana (from our yeast freaking the hell out) and we allow ourselves to enjoy a lil' bit every once and again. It's a big ol' beer, but we daresay it'll treat you right!
