First and/or foremost, we should probably let you know about our upcoming holiday hours! In honor of "Freedom Day," we will be open 12-8 on Monday July 4th so if you wanna grab a beer and hang out before you go look at some sky booms, then come on by!
Hello again! It's that special time again, so let's cut right to the jib! First and/or foremost, we should probably let you know about our upcoming holiday hours! In honor of "Freedom Day," we will be open 12-8 on Monday July 4th so if you wanna grab a beer and hang out before you go look at some sky booms, then come on by! While your humble editor must admit it doesn't feel like there's much to celebrate in terms of democracy/freedom/independence, I think we can all agree that beer and sunshine and hot dogs are all great ways to celebrate a summer afternoon. So come on out! Next up and/or next-most-foremost is the Main Event - it's what we're really here for and what we're really all about and that's beer! More to the point, this is the sort* of beer that we get particularly excited about and anyway it's a mild that we brewed to pair with the sounds of Organ Meats (who will be returning to the stage at our birthday party this year) and it's called Stick the Landing and it'll be in cans on Friday and you should drink some! MILD And then moving along to Saturday we'll have Sandwich Boy in the house all afternoon! They'll be slingin' sandwiches (duh) which are very good (also duh) and they might also bring some other stuff who knows so you might as well just come out and drink beer and eat sandwiches! Last week we were graced with smashburgers. Who knows what treasures await us this weekend? And then moving into the heady days of "next week," next Tuesday we'll be having another Surf Guitar Happy Hour/Live Drawing featuring Matt Heaton and Dirk Tiede respectively and that's honestly a lot more fun and a lot less weird than you might think, and then on next Thursday we've got the July installment of Audio Triviality and this time the theme is Glam Rock, so we'll be gettin' down to a bunch of good ol' classics from the 70's and 80's and it's gonna be a fun time and you should come out! Some musicians have backups dancers. This guy's got a backup doodler! * Also known as "beer styles that nobody ever asks for"
Howdy friends! It's high time we blog up some blogs, so let's blog to it! First up on that ol' docket is cask! This one happens to be the last cask we're pourin' before we start our Summer Cask Hiatus and we figure that means we gotta tap up a right special cask, so we're tappin' up a right special cask! More to the point, we'll be tapping a log of Blood Built, which was pretty much made for cask and it's gonna be delicious and/or a fitting sendoff for the season and it's pouring Thursday until it kicks, so come getcha some! Yes, we know YOU still like drinking cask when it's hot out, but everybody else is apparently a much harder sell. And speaking of new beer, we've got a new beer on tap! Right now! This one is (shockingly) another anniversary beer and this time around it's for new-to-our-party Attest! We figure these hard rockin' folks need a beer that brings just as much pizzazz as they do, so we whipped up a moderately big ol' saison and dry hopped the crap out of it with a whole host of stuff including some (locally-grown) hops with that Classic European Character (Mt. Rainier from Four Star Farms to be specific) and some fruity favorites (such as MI-grown Mackinac from Hang 'Em High Hops) and we daresay it's a solid blend of old-school cool and new-school panache and you should drink some! PLUS, it's the first beer to feature our super cool anniversary crowler labels And while we're on about hoppy beers we brewed for/with bands, we've got another hoppy beer that we brewed with a band! This one is somehow not an anniversary beer, but rather a collab with our friends in Aversed and it was made in honor of their upcoming tour and single release! And in the spirit of blending the classics with the new school, we took a bunch of our favorite West Coast IPA hops (comet, cascade, galena, et. al.) and fit them onto the chassis of a hazy-ish IPA and the result is a tongue-tingling delight for the senses and it'll be available in cans on Friday and you should come drink some! I don't have a lot to say about IPAs other than that they taste good And speaking of Friday, we've got some fun times planned for Friday! We'll be hosting this month's Band Hangouts with Radio Compass and Motel Black and Kid Disaster (Salem Wolves unfortunately had to cancel) and they'll be hangin' out and slingin' merch and we'll be pumpin' their tunes over our house speakers (which will definitely be a change of pace from what we've been playing as of late) and we'll also have Wild Fox in the house cookin' up some pierogis and we'll have Blanche's Ice Cream comin' by and servin' up sundaes and/or ice cream tacos and it's gonna be a dang ol' good time and you should swing by! Bands! Hangs! And the good eats don't stop on Friday - we've got Sandwich Boy comin' by with their delicious chicken sandwiches on Saturday and that's pretty much the perfect pairing for the wonderful weather we're supposed to have, so come on by! SNACKUMS
Howdy-do camperoos, have we got some new beers for you! (We do have some new beers for you, I checked) We've also got some make-believe rockin' good times (well, the good times are real. It's just the rockin' that's for pretend) and anyway there's probably some other cool stuff too so let's get on with it! But first off we gotta give a brief* shoutout to everyone who made Decibel Fest such a great time - everyone from Decibel Magazine, the Fillmore, of course our new pals Guy, Mike, Greg, and Jon from The Red Chord, Brendan and Ivan for trekking down to hang for the weekend, and of course our very own Bananamasher for the initial hookup! We made a buncha friends and listened to some rad tunes and drank a whole buncha tasty beer and it was the most fun any of us has had in a dang ol' while (and I'm not just saying that in the hopes that we get invited back for the next one) and anyway it's a great fest and we wholeheartedly encourage you to check it out! Our hearts our full, our brains and bodies are melted P.S. More photos and band footage here Anyway, moving on to the here and/or now, we've got The Airness! Here! And now! This tasty tipple was made for the air guitar competition we're hosting later this week (more on that in a bit) and it's nice and light and a little hoppy and ever so easy to drink! How airpropriate And slightly farther into the future, on Thursday we'll be doin' a beer dinner at Cunard Tavern! They whipped up a delicious-sounding five course dinner and each course is paired with one of our beers and we'll be there to hang out and ramble about beer and it's gonna be hella fun and you should come! Tickets here: Bone Up Beer Dinner Bonus fun: you'll get to heckle Liz while she rambles about beer But getting back to new beers in cans, we've got another new beer coming out in cans on Friday! This is yet another beer brewed for our upcoming anniversary (you're gonna be seeing a lot of those) and it's an old school west coast IPA brewed to pair with the sounds of Benthic Realm! This is the third time we've made a beer for Benthic Realm and it's also the third time we've made an IPA for them because it turns out that hoppy beer and doom metal are somehow the perfect pairing and we've all just got to live with that? Anyway, the beer is delicious and you get to have some soon! And since we're already talking about anniversary beers that are coming out on Friday** we've got another anniversary beer for Blue Manic coming out on Friday! We really dug the spruce tip pale ale we made for them last year, so now they're stuck with it! Seriously though, that beer is good as hell and we're right stoked it's comin' around again and we think you'll enjoy! Mmm yeah love me a good spruce tip pale So. Back to Friday and the festivities we'll be holding, this Friday we're hosting the Air Guitar Regional Championships! If you've never been to (or otherwise seen) an air guitar competition before, we highly recommend it - they're a lot more intense and/or weird than you could reasonably expect them to be, and it's completely a ton of fun. It's free to attend (with a suggested donation to help cover the registration fees for the national air guitar organization) and also we're gonna have Decimation Deli in the house, which is owned by the people who make the delicious hot sauce of the same name and we ain't had their food yet but we're completely stoked to try it and anyway the point is you should come hang out and have fun (and sandwiches) with us! LET'S GET WEIRD And then on Saturday we're once again kickin' things off early with some yoga! We're kickin' off an all-levels vinyasa class in the beer garden starting at 10:30 and then later in the day we've got Pizza Project swingin' by and doin' what they do (making spaghetti) and that sounds like a darn fine Saturday if we do say so ourselves! Saturday is also Chris’ last shift behind the bar before we bid him a fond farewell! Chris was one of our first employees and he’s been with us through all the highs and lows since 2016, and he’s become a true friend over the years. Swing by and let him pour you a beer (and of course grab some spaghetti)! And then looking a bit farther into the future, next Friday we've got more Band Hangouts! This time around we're switchin' things up a bit and the bands are Salem Wolves, Radio Compass, Motel Black, and Kid Disaster! We'll be playing their music over our speakers all night and they'll be hangin' out and slingin' merch and also we'll have Wild Fox Pierogi and Blanche's Ice Cream in the house and it's gonna be hella fun and you should come by! "Pop punk nite" * I'll at least try to keep it brief, since I know you're tired of hearing about this. We are not tired of talking about it
** Yes, we know that the party isn't for two more months. But the party keeps getting bigger and it turns out that we can't brew/release 17 beers at once, so we've gotta stagger them over the summer. It's like people that celebrate their "birthday week," only moreso. Well hey there! It's blog time again, so let's blog up the blogginest blog we can blog and also maybe make some friends along the way! Pictured: proof of friends And speaking of friends, it's (finally) time for the Decibel Beer and Metal Fest! Yes indeedy, we'll be schleppin' ourselves all the way out to the City of Brotherly Apples (i.e. Philadelphia) and we're gonna be pourin' beers and headbangin' and doin' all kindsa groovy things all weekend long! This fest is also the reason that we brewed Fixation on Red Ale (our collab with The Red Chord) and it's also the reason that we brewed Embrace the Chaos (our collab with the concept of "needing to bring an IPA to this fest") so if you're headed to the fest (or if you're in Philly and you happen to see us while we're out embarrassing ourselves) come say hi! A lineup fit for metalheads! And bringin' things a little closer to home, we got cask this week! We're bringin' back our favorite beer to tap on cask - namely Extra Naked - and we dropped in a dab of fruity ol' Belma and it's gettin' tapped on Thursday and it's gonna be completely tasty as heck and you should come have some! This could be your weekend view And speaking of Thursday, Thursday is Simpsons Trivia night! The theme for the month is Season Six and we're really gettin' in to the sweet spot for the show's best years, so come on out and reminisce with us and/or win some stupid Simpsons-themed prizes! And then headin' into the weekend we've got a hella delicious lineup of eats scheduled for y'all, with HotChix and Blanche's Ice Cream in the house on Friday followed by Wild Fox Pierogi on Saturday and then BiscuitDrop bringin' brunch on Sunday and it's gonna be tasty times! Also on Saturday we've got New Wave Yoga happening before the taproom opens (at 10:30, specifically), so if you wanna get your Vinyasa on to the sounds of some new wave, dark wave, and post punk, then come on out! And as an added bonus, the ticket price includes a beer, which means that you can use "doing something healthy" as an excuse to have breakfast and/or lunch beers, and isn't that the true meaning of exercise? Grab tickets here: New Wave Yoga 6/11 And then gettin' to some coll stuff we've got goin' on next week, on next Tuesday we've got Matt Heaton here for Surf Guitar Happy Hour and he'll be accompanied by a live drawing session from artist Dirk Tiede. If you're not really sure what that might mean (we were admittedly a little confused the first time we went to one of these), Matt will be playing a bunch of surf rock and while he's doing that (since watching somebody play guitar might not be the most scintillating activity) Dirk (who is the artist/author of the graphic novel Paradigm Shift) will set up a projector so you can watch him draw a bunch of stuff.* It's a lot of fun! We might even be releasing a secret beer or two And then next Thursday we're gonna be "out in the wild" for a beer dinner at Cunard Tavern! They'll be serving up a five-course meal with each course paired with one of our beers and we'll be there to hang out and/or talk about beer (and/or drink beer et cetera) and it's gonna be tasty times! And as an added bonus, it's part of their Female-Led Series, which means that Liz gets to do all the talking and (more to the point) you won't have to hear Jared go on a weird ten-minute tangent about yeast and anyway it's gonna be fun and you should come! Grab tickets here: Cunard Tavern Beer Dinner Series And the dang ol' day after that, next Friday, we're hosting an air guitar competition!** It's free to attend (with a suggested donation to help cover the registration fees with US Air Guitar***) and we strongly suggest that you check it out because these events are honestly kind of bonkers. There's a ton of stage theatrics and ridiculous costumes and merriment and judge-bribing and you'll probably get to see a bunch of people (as in, people who are here just to drink a couple beers) get very very confused about what's happening and anyway it's gonna be a huge amount of fun and we hope to see you there! FREEBIRD! * Full disclosure: the first time we went to one of these events, we were largely unaware of the "live drawing" component, so it was definitely peculiar to see a guy set up a screen and start drawing cowboys right next to the band.
** Specifically we'll be hosting the New England regionals, which is wild because if you look at the other regional competitions they're all being hosted at, like, real venues and then we're just rockin' out on our patio/loading dock. *** Of COURSE there's a national organization for competitive air guitar. Why wouldn't there be? |
