In Which We Put on Our Dancing Jorts

Hello again! It's once again time for us to do what we do best around this ol' blog and that means gettin' to the hip haps about what's on tap, so let's saddle up and sally forth!

And before we get into whatever it is I was just talking about, we've got a bit of a "housekeeping note" and that's summer hours! More to the point, our summer hours have begun right now which means we open a little earlier (3 PM) and close a little later (11 PM) during the week so's y'all can have the maximum amount of Summer Fun Beer Garden Enjoyment!

And gettin' right back to the nitty and/or gritty we're kickin' off the weekend the same way we always do and that's with a cask! Yes indeedy, this Thursday we're once again firin' up the ol' beer engine and this time around it's staff favorite Extra Naked and I guess we musta been a bit nostalgic for the heady days of 2008 when we made this cask because we crammed it fulla Amarillo® (specifically Amarillo® LupoMax® cryo pellets, which means it's a futuristic throwback, which means it's ironical, which in turn means it's Art) and all kidding aside it's gonna be completely tasty as heck, so come grab a pint with us!

And speaking of tasty beers (but taking a brief detour away from "Thursday") we should probably mention that we've got a new beer available! Right now! This one is (technically) the first release for upcoming anniversary party (which isn't until August, but we're making so many dang beers for this thing we gotta plan ahead) and anyway it's a pale ale packed with spruce tips that we made to pair with the sounds of Clouds Taste Satanic and it's called Ales of Demonic Possession and it's mighty tasty (and also mighty sprucey**) and you should drink some!

And that's not the only new beer what we got comin' out this week but we'll get to the other one(s) in a minute because we gotta talk about the other cool stuff we got goin' on on Thursday and since it's the first that means trivia! This time around the theme (speaking of nostalgia) is "Nirvana vs Foo Fighters" and also we've got Seabiscuit poppin' up in the taproom and slingin' their savory and/or sweet pies and it's gonna be good times and good tastes galore!

And then on Friday we've got more live music in the taproom (and/or beer garden) and this time it's T. Bloodhound! He's played some tunes in the taproom before but that was a whole while ago and now he's back!

Then on Saturday we're keepin' the music train rollin' with GARF! GARF (which stands for "Gay Ass Rock Fest") is a combination show (featuring Tears From A Grieving Heart, Phagocyte, SINK, Throw, and K.O. Queen) slash marketplace (featuring Creeping Death Designs, Straps N Slaps Leather, Lucy Parsons Center, Black Mold Market, and Feral Fetish) slash charitable fundraiser (for BAGLY) and also it's a beer release party for this year's Pride beer!

The beer itself? A mid-strength saison packed fulla peaches and raspberries and a pinch of lactose for sweetness and it's ever so lovely (and the can art is cool as hell, which is why we also have t shirts with that art) and you should absolutely come hang and drink some and listen to music and if you're hungry grab some food from Breakfast Ninjas (did I mention that they're gonna be here on Saturday?) and it's gonna be a good time!

And then of course we've also got lots of cool stuff for you next week (and there might be another beer release thrown in the middle there somewhere? Unless there isn't?) and that starts next Wednesday when we've got both Fiddle Times (our monthly fiddle-centric free-to-join jam session) and a Suminagashi coaster workshop that sounds fun as hell and then next Thursday we've got Simpsons Trivia again and the theme is "Bart" because Chris is slowly turning into a being of pure chaos and then next Friday and Saturday we've got Boston is Doomed! That's our two-day-long (ticketed) show packed fulla doom and stoner rock and all kinds of groovy things (and also we're having a yard sale the day after that, because why not) and anyway the good times just keep on comin', so come on and enjoy them!

In Which We Tap the Greatest Cask of All Time (But That's, Just, Like, Our Opinion, Man)

Oh hi! How are you? We're great, thanks for asking! And the reason we're great is that we've got a whole shitload (possibly even two shitloads) of cool stuff lined up for you this week, so let's get to it!

And first on up as always is cask! This one's a cask that we* have been eagerly awaiting and that's We're All Doomed! This simple lil' mild belies a whole mess of deliciousness and this is a style that Truly Shines when it's on cask so we're downright stoked as hell to try some on Thursday** and you should come have some with us!

And speaking of beer, we've got beer to release! More to the point we've got a brand-spankin'-new beer that's not only a new band collab (with xXXXx, and we'll be doing a release shindig for it but we'll get to that in a minute) but also it's a style we've never brewed before! The beer is called Believe In Yourself and that's honestly a really appropriate name on account of how it's a Black IPA that clocks in at more of a "moderately dark brown" (it's our first try, give us a break) but more importantly it's hella fruity and super tasty and it's available in cans starting on Saturday and you should come have some!

And then gettin' on into the fun events what we've got in store for you, the weekend kicks off Wednesday (i.e. tonight) with a terrarium workshop! I don't have much to say about this except to point out that it's an unexpectedly zen experience to create a jar full of garden, and I recommend you check it out!

Then on Thursday we've got Left Couch Comedy back in the house for our monthly comedy night! And as a little "added bonus" (or not, depending on whether or not you like to listen to comedy on what appears to be the set of a horror movie) we've managed to "spruce up" the side room since the last comedy night and now there's curtains in front of all that plastic sheeting that we're using as a wall (which has been described, repeatedly, as "a little murdery") so if you wanna get your giggle on in a room that's mostly made out of curtains, come join us!

And then on Friday we're kickin' off a music-focused weekend*** with a solo show by Jim Healey! And while we're generally opposed to the "one guy with an acoustic guitar" style of live music, we caught Jim's set a little ways back and we really dug it, and we think you will too!

Then on Saturday we're kickin' off the day early (at 10:30 AM) with Emo Yoga hosted by Crystal and then a little later in the afternoon we've got new-to-us Code 1 BBQ poppin' up, and then a little later in the day (but still overlapping with the popup) we've got a show to coincide with the release of Believe In Yourself! We'll be hearing a set from xXXXx**** because they're the inspiration behind the collab beer (and who will also be bringin' some sweet limited-release collab t shirts) and they're gonna be joined by Last Sight and Rival Society and it's pretty much gonna be fun as hell so you might as well come rock out with us!

And movin' on to the murky waters of The Future, we've got some cool stuff lined up for you next week too! Next Thursday we've got Audio Triviality back in the house for Nirvana vs. Foo Fighters Trivia and then we're bringin' back the back-to-back music next week too, with T. Bloodhound next Friday and then GARF next Saturday. And what is GARF, you ask? Why it's none other than the release party for this year's Pride beer (and also the sick Pride shirts that we got featuring the can art for said beer) and also it's a Gay Ass Rock Fest, complete with a whole mess o' bands and vendors (focusing specifically on queer musicians/makers)! We've got tunes from Tears From A Grieving Heart and Phagocyte and SINK and Throw and K.O. Queen plus Creeping Death Designs and Straps N Slaps Leather and Feral Fetish will be settin' up shop out in the beer garden and the whole show is a benefit for BAGLY (a Boston-based, youth-led organization supporting and advocating for LGBQT+ programs in the community) and anyway it's gonna be fun as hell and also it's supporting a good cause and you should come hang with us!

** Since this beer was made to be served at Boston is Doomed, we'll also have a cask of it tapped on that weekend. We tried to fill more than two casks of it but Liz wouldn't let us.
*** It has come to our attention that there's some sort of local music festival this weekend, but we still want to see all these cool artists and anyway the beer's much better here.
**** It's pronounced "x triple-x x" if you were wondering. Not the easiest band in the world to google, as I've mentioned before.

In Which Everything is Tom's Fault

Howdy do friendaroos! We've got a week chock full of good times galore and several new beers and also the triumphant-ish return of cask and anyway let's cut right to the jib and get on with it!

And kickin' things off is that thing I just mentioned and that thing is cask! This Thursday we'll be tappin' a cask of Tom's Fault (which is completely delicious if you haven't tried it yet) and we felt like that ol' beer would be best served by bein' served just straight up no monkey business so that's what we did!

And speaking of new* beers that are good, we've got another new beer comin' out this week and it's good! More to the point, that beer is Synthetic Dreams, an IPA we brewed to celebrate the new album from Widower (which came out within the past week or so) and it's gonna be available in cans starting on Friday just in time for the Band Hangouts (featuring, among other bands, Widower) and anyway it's completely tasty as heck and you should drink some!

And while we're talkin' about things that are good we should probably announce We're All Doomed! This here's another Milestone Batch - namely batch 666 - and we spent a good long while (somewhere in the vicinity of seven years) tryin' to figure out what to brew to celebrate such an auspicious occasion and we eventually settled on something that's basically the opposite of what we do for all our milestone beers: a golden mild! And while we did brew this beer specifically to pair with the music we'll be hosting at Boston Is Doomed next month, we got all excited to drink and/or release it as soon as possible so it's gonna be in cans probably Friday and you should drink some!

And then movin' on into the events for the week we're startin' things off today (Wednesday) with a pour painting class in the taproom! If you've never done pour painting before all you need to know is that it's super fun and you should try it!

And then on Thursday we've got another Bonsai Bar Workshop! You'll get to learn the techniques used in the art of bonsai and you'll get to leave with your very own tiny tree! Anyway this is also gonna be fun as hell, so come check it out!

And then on Friday we've got more Band Hangouts! We'll be featuring Widower on account of how we made a beer for them (which we will be releasing for said Band Hangs), but we'll also have InAeona, Kid Disaster, and This World Has Bees in the house and we've got Tasty BBQ here servin' up some seriously good eats and you should come hangout with us!

And then on Saturday we don't have any big events (but we *do* have a private party renting the beer garden for the evening, so plan accordingly. This is - you guessed it - Tom's fault) but we've got Lala's Pizza in the house for the evening and any time we get to eat their food is pretty much an event in their own right, so come get some tasty grub!

And then Sunday we're playin' it low key like we usually do but I figured I'd remind you that our regular Sunday sushi classes are gonna be on hiatus for the summer starting pretty soon.

And then peekin' forward into next week, we've got some cool stuff comin' up next week too! Next Wednesday (the 24th) we've got a succulent terrarium workshop that's gonna be a buncha fun (there's a lot of dirt-themed events in the back half of May it turns out, but we sure ain't complaining) and then next Thursday (the 25th) is our monthly Comedy Night, which will also be going on hiatus for the summer (our side room gets... warm during the summer, and outdoor comedy isn't always the best idea) so if you haven't been yet you should come on out and see what you've been missing!

And then we won't get too far into the weeds about next weekend except to say that we've got live music on Friday (Jim Healey) and on Saturday (xXXXx and Last Sight and maybe one more) and also there's gonna be another band beer release but we'll get to all that next time!

* Well, it's "new" as long as you ignore the "pre release" keg that we tapped. Also we weren't talking about new beers, but that's neither here nor there.

In Which We Get Ready to Pet ALL the Dogs

Well hello there! We've got a weekend ham-packed* fulla great beer and fun times and tasty treats and definitely not any disappointing news about cask I don't even know why you'd mention that and anyway let's stop talkin' about talkin' and get to the goods!

And first on up is something I straight-up forgot to mention last week (and possibly also the week before? Who even knows how time works these days) and anyway that's new merch! More to the point, the guys in The Red Chord got all excited that we were re-releasin' Fixation on Red Ale so they had the folks over at IndieMerch do up some sweet collab merch and we've got some of that sweet merch for sale in our very own taproom and it's available right now! They actually managed to dig out the design from our first-ever t shirts that we released back in 2016 (or possibly 2015 when we were still in the "foolish optimism" phase of waiting on buildout to be over) and anyway there's a couple hoodies and a t shirt and they're sweet as heck and we've only got a handful on hand so come grab one if you're lookin' for some rad duds!

And moving right along, we've got some mildly** disappointing news about cask which is that there will be no cask this week on account of how we don't have one ready, which is either a very lame reason or really the only reason there possibly could be, but more to the point we didn't brew caskable stuff for a little while and now it's caught up to us. Anyway, cask will be back next week (it'll be Tom's Fault) and also for several weeks after that because we've got a very special beer we're releasing soon that's pretty much made for cask so we're gonna cask up several casks of that but we'll get to that in due time. Anyway: womp, etc.

But in brighter news, we've got a new beer on draft! Right now! It's an English*** Pale Ale that we brewed to celebrate the nuptials of our former brewer Human Tom (so named to avoid confusion with our keg washing machine, Handsome Tom) and his partner Gill and it's called Tom's Fault and it's completely tasty as heck and you should drink some!

And movin' on into the "good times" portion of this ol' blog, we've got some good times comin' up! And we're kickin' off this weekend's Good Times Bonanza on Wednesday (i.e. tonight) with Fiddle Times! If you're unfamiliar with how these "Fiddle Times" work around here, it's pretty simple: it's an open jam session full of old-timey music that isn't actually restricted to fiddles (though most people do bring some sort of stringed instrument) and that's pretty much the whole deal but the point is that it's hella fun (or at least it's fun to listen to, and the people playing seem to enjoy themselves a lot) and you should come play and/or listen in!

And then on Thursday we're back in action with more Simpsons Trivia! The theme this month is "Season Five" which might be an attempt at straightforwardness after the "Homer" themed night, but Chris is truly a man of mystery so we may never know. Anyway, we've got a freshly-stocked prize bin (they just... keep showing up in the mail) and it's gonna be a hoot and you should come join us!

And then on Friday we've got our first nighttime live music of the season! We've got Officer X and Ravage joining us for the evening (not sure in what order, but they'll both be awesome so you should come for both anyway) and it's free to attend and also we'll have Hungry Nomads in the house slingin' tasty eats and it's gonna be a great time!

And then on Saturday we're celebratin' the Big Holiday of the weekend and that's Dog Mom's Day! We're startin' the day off as one does any proper Dog Mom's Day: with yoga! More specifically it's Punk Yoga with Sarah and it starts at 10:30, so come on out and get stretchy before you hang out and pet all the dogs!

And speaking of petting all the dogs, also on Saturday is our Dog Mom's Marketplace! We've got Red Dog Pet Spa and The Pet Snackery and Gal's Best Pal and Goodboy Wear and The Chill Pup CBD Treats all settin' up shop in the taproom and slingin' merch (and/or info, since there's at least one rescue in that list) and we'll be donating $1 per pour to Gal's Best Pal Rescue Mission and also there's gonna be a raffle that you enter by drinking AND if you want to go above and beyond on the whole "dog mom" thing (and you should) there's ALSO a (ticketed) paint your pet workshop happening that afternoon that I can say from personal experience is a great experience and also it's not related to dogs but Breakfast Ninjas will be poppin' up with tasty eats all afternoon and it's gonna be a good day! Come on by, bring your dog, and hang out!

And then on Sunday we've got our regularly scheduled sushi class with Chef Harold and it's completely delightful but you already knew all that. But! What you maybe didn't know is that the sushi classes go on hiatus for the summer (it gets very hot in that room and you really don't want to be dealing with raw fish in what is effectively a sauna) so if you've been on the fence about signing up for the class, consider this your gentle reminder!

And then movin' on a bit to next week, we've got a buncha cool stuff happening next week too! Next Monday we've got a new-to-us event that was suggested by Light of Day Records and that's Beers and Bowie! We're bringing in a Bowie Historian and gettin' into some "deep cuts" on the Thin White Duke and there's gonna be a fair amount of records gettin' spun, so if you're lookin' to get Ziggy with it, come on by! And then next Wednesday we've got a pour painting class in the taproom! If you're unfamiliar, it's a painting technique that involves pouring the paint (duh) instead of brushing it or any of that fancy nonsense and it honestly produces good results way more often than you might expect (as in, most of the time, even if you're particularly bad at painting like Jared is) and you should come try it! And then speaking of fun workshops in the taproom, we've got Bonsai Bar back in the house next Thursday and that really needs no introduction (tiny trees, bring your own tiny lawn furniture) but it's also fun as hell! And then next Friday we've got our monthly Band Hangouts and this one features Widower and Inaeona and Kid Disaster and This World Has Bees and also it's the release party for our collab with Widower (Synthetic Dreams Hazy IPA) which was made to celebrate their new album release (and/or to celebrate this Band Hangout, it can be both) and anyway that's gonna be fun too and you should probably just come out to all this cool stuff we're doin'!

*** Ah yes, an "English style" beer made by a Belgian-focused American brewery, using American hops. The point is: it's a little maltier than most of our other stuff. Pip pip and/or cheerio, and so on.

In Which the Purple Beer Cometh

Howdy friends! It's roundabout time we get to celebratin' the gen-u-wine o-fficial start of patio season and we've got some cool stuff lined up to do just that, so read on and read up! But first, a snapshot from the magical/unhinged trivia night with our pals in The Red Chord last Saturday:

First on up is an extremely timely cask and that's Patio Weather! We took this light 'n zippy lil' session beer and crammed in a buncha Pekko for even more zazz and it's gettin' tapped on Thursday and you should drink some!

And speaking of seasonally-appropriate beer releases, we've got another seasonally-appropriate beer release! More to the point, we re-brewed everybody's* favorite summer seasonal and I'm of course talking about Henrietta and that beautiful magenta darling is available on tap and in cans startin' on Saturday (and also we're doin' up a whole shindig to go along with said beer release. Or maybe it was the other way around? Anyway, more on that in a minute) and it's high time you came and drank some Henrietta out in our beer garden, so come and drink some Henrietta out in our beer garden!

But anyway, before we get too involved in the stuff that's in the near future, we gotta get to the stuff that's in the even nearer future and that future starts TODAY! More poignantly, we're havin' another Rock Band Night and it is tonight (Wednesday) and there's gonna be all kindsa good times involving fake instruments and real vocals and anyway it's pretty much a blast and you should come out!

And then on Thursday we've got this month's Audio Triviality (our monthly music-themed trivia night) and this month's theme is "Rock 'n Weird" which might sound a little vague but it turns out that Matt knows a lot of weird music facts/stories, so it's sure to be a hella good time!

And movin' on to Saturday we're throwin' our Welcome To Spring/Beer Garden Grand (re)Opening Super Extravaganza or whatever we're callin' it (update: it's called Spring Bazaar, which is a much better name) and we're pullin' out all (or at least some of) the stops! We're releasing Henrietta (I mentioned this) and we're gonna have eats from Tasty BBQ (and no, it's not just a clever name) and there's gonna be a buncha vendors settin' up - namely Atlas Moon Art (mugs, plates, and other ceramics), Bali Marle (Indonesian inspired sauces and spices), Hot Monkey Nuts (should be obvious), and Nubble Light Candles (no idea what these guys are bringing) - and AND we're gonna have an afternoon full of live music featuring our pals from DnA's Evolution and Radio Compass and Thrust Club! Anyway it's gonna be one hell of a time and it's supposed to be nice out so really there's no reason not to come hang out with us!

And then if you were looking for even more cool reasons to come hang out with us, we've got an action-packed schedule next week too! It starts off next Wednesday with Fiddle Times - an open-invite old-timey jam session in our side room and then we keep the party goin' next Thursday with Simpsons Trivia where we're apparently returning to Season Five but I ain't gonna complain because that's a very good season and it should be a lot of fun and then next Friday we've got our first-of-the-season nighttime live music and it's gonna be completely killer because it's showcasing Officer X and Ravage and then next Saturday we're startin' the morning off with Yoga with Sarah and then we're havin' our Dog Mom's Marketplace featuring a buncha cool dog-related vendors (including The Pet Snackery, Chill Pup CBD Treats, Goodboy Wear, and Red Dog Pet Spa) and also there's a (ticketed) Paint Your Pet Workshop goin' on as well and anyway the point is that it's pretty much all fun times all the times around here and it would be swell if you'd join us!

Oh! And! Speaking of swell things from cool people, we've got April's coloring contest winners! Adequate work, everyone!
