2021 Year In Review (Part One): In Which There Are Dark Times

12/29/2021

Howdy friends! What with this bein' the end of the year and all, we figured we'd spend a while lookin' back on the past year or so and... woof. It turns out that we didn't particularly need or want to travel down this particular memory lane, but we did and now you have to suffer with us! Although, since this year has been so... interesting, we figured we'd split up our year-end lookback into two blog posts instead of one, and that's definitely not because Jared has a tendency to forget what day it is.* But! Before we get to retrospectin', we gotta get hip with the haps in the upcoming week and (slightly) beyond, so check it!
Picture
This could be your view at our brunch on Saturday. Just saying
First on up is the sort-of return of a beloved beer: Honey 'n Hops! We may have "mixed things up" with a couple (most) of the ingredients, but the guiding principle remains the same: we take a big ol' IPA made with local grains and local hops and "goose it up" with a whole bunch of a cool varietal honey (orange blossom, in this case) and voilà! Tasty times! Anyway this tasty tipple will be available in cans and probably on draft this Friday!
Picture
If you want to hear an hour long lecture on varietal honey, find Liz and feed her a Honey 'n Hops
And speaking of beers available in cans on Friday, we're releasing our latest band collab in cans this Friday! We met up with new-to-the-scene Attest and brewed up a light 'n lightly dry-hopped tasty ol' beer that we're callin' Unchained and it'll be in cans right soon!
Picture
"Brewing"
And moving on to slightly more bummerish beer news, on account of all the Holiday Schedule Disruptions,** we're holdin' off on having a cask this week as well. I know, we're none to jazzed either, but we gotta make sure our casks get the love and attention they deserve, and this is the best way we can do that. But! The beer engine will be up and running next week for suresies!
And speaking of holiday hours, here's your reminder that we are closing early on New Year's Eve on account of our strong belief that New Year's Eve sucks.

But! We ain't got no beef with New Year's Day and we certainly ain't got no beef with bringing in a whole bunch of tasty brunch foods to help you get through your NYE hangover, so we're bringin' in our new friends from Biscuitdrop on Saturday from 12-3 and they've got a delicious brunch spread available and you should come havre some!

And moving on a bit further into the weekend, we've got our first sushi class of the year on Sunday and we suggest you come check it out!
Picture
All right 2022, let's see what fresh hell you are capable of bringing. Fucking fight me
And moving a little farther into next week, it behooves us to give a shout out to Audio Triviality next Thursday! The theme is apparently ninjas and pirates and aliens, which definitely makes sense in the context of heavy metal and/or punk so there's really no need to explore that idea any further and anyway you should come hang out!
Picture
I'm going to go ahead and bet this playlist is gonna be SO MUCH power metal LFG
And, lastly, before we get started looking back, is our second-to-last reminder for Horatio Day! The weekend of January 7th-9th we'll be tappin' up a whole mess of fancy pants beer (though no actual Fancy Pants this time) and there will be cool flights and snacks and merriment and we think you'll like it so come on out and join us for some good times!
Picture
I'm getting tipsy just looking at this draft list
Alrightyroo! It's once again time to don our best navel-gazing glasses and look backwards on the past year in a tradition that we're really starting to regret starting: The Year In Review!
* For the first time in the history of this blog, this is actually true.
** And/or all the new covid-related hullabaloo. If only somebody could have warned us that this sort of thing could happen. Say, maybe, every medical expert in the entire goddamned world? Nah, that seems a little farfetched.

2021 Year in Review (Part One)

Truth be told, we managed to block most of the early parts of the year from our memory (and by "early parts" we mean "the entire first half of the year and then some"). But thankfully, we've got our trusty blog archives to refer back to and now we've got a (mostly) fresh perspective on that time period as we watch ourselves try to be All Smiles through an honestly very difficult time (though if you're feeling charitable, you could say that we were doing whatever we could to brighten up peoples' days a bit during said difficult times).
Picture
As many of you know, we're no strangers to existential crises around here - hell, we created a holiday whose theme was effectively "let's celebrate our survival through another surreal nightmare" and we've had legitimate reason to celebrate every year for at least three years (soon to be four!).

But with that in mind, pretty much every year so far has also had some sort of big milestone/accomplishment, or at least something that's a big deal to
us. Crowlers, expansions, our wild beer program, canning, and so on and so on. But this year our main accomplishment was existing, which is probably a metaphor for the pervasiveness of the human spirit or, like, birds.
Picture
Looking back on the year as a whole is honestly a bit of a trip - watching ourselves slowly, tentatively, add back parts of the business that we'd had to shut down, all while completely uncertain of whether or not we should and whether we'd be able/allowed to keep doing these things. You know how it all ends (and it's arguably a happy-ish ending), but it's still an interesting experience to relive. But you ain't gotta take my word for it: let's dive right in, starting in...
...January when things were honestly still pretty bleak out in The World so we mostly held a series of low-key virtual events in order to try and give people something fun to do and/or stave off madness. These were honestly pretty fun for us, even though most of them heavily featured things like "Jared stammering at the camera because he's laughably bad at public speaking" and "group discussions derailing in very weird ways because we weren't expecting to have to moderate people" and "realizing, repeatedly, that there's a lot of dead air if we're trying to host a virtual event and eat (and/or cook) at the same time." But! It was, as they say, a momentary diversion on the road to the grave, and that's really the most we could hope for. Plus we got to hang out with a bunch of people we wouldn't have gotten to see otherwise, so we'll call it a win.
Picture
And aside from the recurring, largely low-key virtual events, we also celebrated Horatio Day! Sure that was also a series of virtual events, only these virtual events had fancy food pairings and fancy beer and rad glassware and there was a Secret Session that largely involved one of our brewers shotgunning an entire four-pack of El Pulpo on camera and we released the ugly-but-delicious Critters XI (there were some... massive clarity issues due to the fruit puree we used in one component of that blend) and there was a surprising amount of discussion about clown weddings and also Horatio Day was held three weeks late because we kind of forgot how the linear passage of time works (and these things take time to plan, so we couldn't just pull something out of our collective asses at the last minute), but it still ended up being a good time!
Picture
We had our concerns that it might be a bit bittersweet to try and host it online, but it turns out that the sentimental and introspective parts of our brains are easily thwarted by Quadless Leg Monster (and thwart we did!). And that's certainly not the last time those parts of our brains needed to be thwarted, as things looked pretty much the same in...
Picture
...February when we... held... a series... of low-key virtual events. In order to try and give people something fun to do. And then we ended the month by (virtually) celebrating one of our made-up holidays.
Picture
But in the middle of the month we did do something cool that was (sort of) new to us - we released (in cans) a pair of beers that were made to be blended into a beertail (or drunk on their own, whatevs): It's Like We Finish Each Others... ...Sandwiches! (which was meant to be a pop culture reference, but not for the thing that most people think of. Turns out that joke has been used a few times over the years). We'd done paired beers like this on draft before, usually for weddings, but weddings weren't exactly happening during the first year that we were canning so this was a first!
Picture
We released it for Valentine's Day (when we held a Galentine's Trivia night with Boston GLOW) and we made mix packs of the beers-for-beertails and a good time was had by some! And then we ended the month with our unfortunately-annual existential-terror-themed holiday: Kafka Day!
Picture
Only for this holiday we applied some lessons we'd learned from our previous virtual holiday and decided not to host four consecutive events centered around high-ABV beer (truth be told we were probably still hungover from Horatio Day when we held Kafka Day) and anyway this "holiday" ended up spanning two weeks instead of three days (and it involved Girl Scout Cookie pairings) and the second weekend just so happened to fall in...
...March when things were finally? kind of? starting to sometimes look a little more like life as we knew it.
Picture
And by that I mean it was sometimes above forty degrees outside which meant our beer garden was somehow (sometimes) in full swing again!
Picture
Or at least it was until we shut it down for the latter half of the month in order to do repairs and renovations and definitely not because the city pointed out that our seasonal beer garden permit was only valid through October 2020.
Picture
But! Before that happened we took advantage of the (relatively) nice weather and teamed up with all the other Everett breweries for a Mass Beer Week bar crawl! It was one of those "visit all the stops and get a prize" kind of deals, but since nobody really had any idea if anyone was gonna come out for our bar crawl in March and also there were still hella social distancing/capacity restrictions in place, the organizers* decided to play it cautious on the amount of passports/prizes ordered (so that nobody would be left with, like, ten cases of unusable glassware) and in retrospect that ended up being maybe not the best call because every brewery involved ran out of passports/prizes on, like, the first day of a weeklong event (which drew a bit of a ...spirited reaction from an industry-adjacent acquaintance of ours).
Picture
And anyway amidst all the renovations and rebuilding the beer garden and kinda-sorta doing some in-person service (mostly on our three-table patio), we still kept that ol' Virtual Event train rollin'!
Picture
In addition to our weekly beer tastings, we did another event for the Hartshorne House and we did a beer release event with Glacier!
Picture
Glacier, if you'll recall, was associated with the big ol' imperial stout No Light Ever and in honor of that beer's release, we got on the ol' Virtual Chat with the band and hung out with a buncha cool people and Matt did some good old-fashioned trivia times and we raised some money for NIVA/Save Our Stages and a good time was had by all (particularly those of us who forgot that we were drinking a 9% beer and absentmindedly drank a whole four pack without getting up)! But as much as we legitimately enjoyed doing virtual events, that was all gonna fall by the wayside as everything got turned upside down (again) in...

* We were consulted during the planning stages, but we weren't In Charge
...April when our beer garden reopened! For real this time!
Picture
And haha oh man remember when there were a jillion rules about how people were and weren't allowed to go out in public and they were never fully communicated to anyone and they kept changing all the time and for some reason it was up to businesses (in this case, us) to enforce this weird/insane/vague bullshit at the risk of losing our license if we didn't?
Picture
Well we were still in the middle of all that nonsense for the entire month of April and, in a throwback to the glory days of 2020, we got a bunch of rule changes from the state every couple weeks wherein they'd hand down a bunch of very specific regulations about whether or not dance floors could reopen (they could not), coupled with one difficult-to-interpret statement meant to encompass everything that pertained to us specifically.
Picture
Anyway, we did our best to keep people happy while still maintaining the rules and it went about as smoothly as we could have hoped, though we really hope that the government doesn't ever force us to pick fights with dumb people again.
Picture
But! In amongst all the confusion, we were still able to maintain focus on the one thing that's really important: beer!
Picture
We released Passion (Fruit) Project, which would set the template for a lot of our later fruit beers, and in honor of the fifth anniversary of our first brewday (which is actually in late May, but whatevs) we brewed an updated version of our first-ever beer release (namely Honey 'n Hops)!
Picture
We also re-brewed Tres Brujas and since that beer happens to be delightful on cask we also brought back cask! And it turns out that cask was just the start of us bringing back the things we loved most about the taproom, because there's a lot more of that in...
Picture
..May when we brought back indoor seating! Kind of! Long story short, we got tired of our beer garden getting rained out so we put a couple tables back in our taproom for rainy days and/or for people who like sitting indoors. We kept the tables hella far apart and we kept the bay door open and the fans on and we didn't bring back barstools and so on and so forth but it still felt like real progress!
Picture
We were finally taking (admittedly small) steps toward restoring the taproom to its former glory after fourteen of the longest months we'd ever lived through! Aaaand then the next dang week the government announced - with about a week's worth of notice - that their Official Policy had changed to something along the lines of "let's pretend covid never happened!" Or, rather, the governor announced that all covid restrictions would be lifted at the end of the month, but then (in the same statement) clarified that by saying that some of the restrictions would be loosened, and the only further elaboration after that was to say that dance floors were not permitted to reopen, but ball pits were.
Picture
So it was really the sort of clarity and exactitude that we were used to at that point, and it was almost reassuring that they'd take the time to make sure things were as uncertain as possible, even with the last of the major rule changes. But! Aside from all that nonsense, May also marked the first of our big milestones for the year (which I already kinda mentioned) and that's the five-year anniversary of our first brewday!
Picture
The anniversary of the brewday isn't really a day we throw a big kerfuffle about, but it marks a pretty important occasion for us so at the very least we had to get a little misty-eyed about it before going about our day. And that's certainly not the last time we got all sentimental this year, but before we could do that we had to look forward, which is pretty much all we did in...
...June when we got to be Ahead Of Our Time by having a bunch of supply-chain issues before it was cool. We had more than a couple beers get delayed because - all of a sudden - the lead time on our labels doubled, freight shipping times quadrupled, lead times on merch (especially glassware but also apparel) increased exponentially, and the can shortage that was Big News a year ago wasn't over (it still isn't, if you're wondering).
Picture
But! This was also the first month out of the year that things even kinda-sorta started to feel even a little bit close to "normal," and that was due in no small part to the return of bar seating! And while I don't usually like to quote blog posts in the year-end wrap-up, there is a bit that pretty much perfectly sums up the way we felt about this: "...and now the real noodle-scratcher is: did we feel like things Out In The World are actually getting better/safer, or did we just get tired of turning away grumpy boomers who are stubbornly hellbent on sitting at the bar (and only at the bar)? We'll let you draw your own conclusions on that one." Ha! Good times, indeed.
Picture
And! We also managed another banner month full of beery highlights: this month brought us The Great Equalizer, our contribution to the Vox & Hops Brewtal North America collab where we got paired with new-to-us band Fuming Mouth and brewed a smoked brown ale (which was, astoundingly, their idea and not ours).
Picture
We also brewed Into the Unknown, the beer that set the template for many of our current IPAs, and in order to celebrate our 500th batch we doubled the ingredients in Extra Naked and made Birthday Suit!
Picture
And also we started shouting about our upcoming birthday party, but we can hold off on that for a second because that's pretty much all we did in...
...to be continued next week

In Which Crimbus

Well hello again! We're here to "drop in" with a bit o' the ol' "holiday cheer" and that's... honestly probably about it because there's not really a hell of a lot going on this time of year. So let's get on with it!
Picture
And on that cheerful-yet-realistic note, it's worth pointing out that there will be no cask this week. Womp.
Picture
But! In brighter news, we've got a new beer on tap! Right now! We had us a hankerin' for some pale ale so we brewed some pale ale and this time around it's called Chaotic Gold! This lil' beer features a couple hops that we've used a time or two in the past (though they don't show their faces 'round these parts nearly often enough) and in this case that means Chaos (from our good friends at Four Star Farms) and the delicious-but-unfortunately-named Bitter Gold! I'd tell you that this beer is tasty as heck, but you really don't need to take my word for it because you can (and should) swing on by and find out for yourself!
Picture
And speaking of new things, we've got new winter hats! These are definitely a bit more understated than our old pompom beanies (not a high bar), but also they're all environmental 'n shit! More to the point, they're made from recycled and upcycled materials by our new friends over at Sus. Sus, in short, focuses on using sustainable/environmentally-friendly/recycled materials (some of their stuff is made from recycled plastic bottles), and we think that's rad and also these hats are comfy as heck and you should get one!

Anyway, getting back to the whole "it's the holidays and scheduling is weird and all over the place" thing, here are our holiday hours!
Picture
And speaking of holidays, it is our sworn duty to remind you that we are fast approaching our favorite made-up holiday: Horatio Day! We'll be celebratin' all things boozy and/or barrel-aged all weekend January 7th-9th and we strongly encourage you to come! We're all sold out on tickets for the Special Tasting Sessions or whatever we're calling them (which is flattering, but also a smidge confusing? Y'all know we're not, like, cool, right? We're nerds and now some of you have to hang out with us) but that don't mean you shouldn't come drink some tasty beers with us! We're tappin' some old favorites from the ol' barrel hold and there's a couple new things goin' on tap and it's gonna be hella fun and you should come!

In Which We Get in the Holiday Spirit!

12/15/2021

Howdy friends! We're back in action for all your "last-minute holiday shopping needs," so long as you - like us - tend to use "holiday shopping" to mean "sitting at the bar for hours on end" (or if you - like us - only give beer and beer-related swag as gifts). Anyway we've got beer and a buncha new-to-us eats and an old friend is slingin' treats and anyway I should probably stop talking about the stuff I'm about to talk about and instead just talk about the stuff!
Picture
Merry Christmas from the BUBco Class of 2021!
And speaking of stuff, let's talk about cask! This Thursday we'll be tappin' a cask of a newcomer (and new favorite) to the draft list: Ozzy! And since Ozzy is a Good Boy and doesn't need a whole bunch of kerfuffle, we left that dang ol' beer alone so's it can strut its stuff in the cask and you should probably come drink some!
Picture
Early sunsets call for dark beers my friends
And speaking of casks, it behooves us to mention that we probably won't be tapping a cask next week on account of Holiday Hours. It's also worth pointing out that we'll be closing early on New Year's Eve unless somebody happens to rent the space out, in which case we'll be open for that person and/or their friends.
Picture
If I had something sassy to say, I'd say it here, but there's only so much you can sass up holiday hours
Anyway, gettin' into the tasty eats for the weekend, we're startin' off with new-to-us Sandwich Boy on Friday! The main thing we know about them is they make tasty fried chicken sandwiches, and we also know that we love tasty fried chicken sandwiches, so we're excited to eat some!

And speaking of things we're excited to eat, the last in our Holiday Market Series is Top Shelf Cookies and they'll be in the taproom on Saturday from 12-4 with some seriously delicious cookies!

And if you just so happen to be lookin' for an "actual meal" before you gorge yourself on cookies, we'll be having new-to-us Biscuitdrop in the taproom on Saturday from 2-8!

And if you're more of a "DIY" kinda person, we're hosting our last sushi class of the year on Sunday! These classes have been a big hit with everybody that's done them, so don't miss out!
Picture
We like food food is good
And! Lastly! Now's the time when we once again shout about how you should come to our fun-as-hell made-up-holiday that we're hosting in a few weeks: Horatio Day! We feel like it's a nice way to "shake off" some of the stress that surrounds all the name-brand holidays, and it can be very relaxing* to "let loose" with a barrel-aged beer or twelve and anyway that's what Horatio Day is all about! We'll be adding a whole mess of draft lines and there's sweet glassware and we have a bunch of awesome food vendors popping up all weekend (did we mention it was a weekend-spanning three-day-long holiday? That seems to be the trend** these days) and most of our tap lines (including the holiday-only ones) are gonna be full of barrel-aged and/or special beer and it's so much fun!
Picture
You can preorder your Horatio Day goblets here: Horatio Day 2022
Anyway we'll be doin' this shindiggery January 7th through 9th and we're quite likely gonna be hosting a couple "private reserve" tastings where you can join Liz and Jared and drink some beers that we definitely cellared on purpose and didn't just lose in the back of the cold room for years on end but anyway that's something to keep them eyes peeled for and back to the main point: you should join us!

SOOOOOON
* Or, as we've seen a number of times, very invigorating

In Which There Are Jollytimes

12/8/2021

Well hey there! We're comin' atcha with a whole mess of good beer and good times and all sortsa groovy things to help get you through The Holiday Season, so let's get on with it!
Picture
After hours light show!
And speaking of The Holidays, we should start by mentioning that we will be closing early - at 5 PM - this coming Sunday (12/12) so that we can have our annual staff holiday party and/or so Ben can force-feed us jello shots until it seems like a good idea for everyone to walk around the neighborhood with a folding table, challenging other businesses to games of flip-cup. Anyway, the point is that we're closing early on Sunday.
Picture
If you were wondering (and I'm sure you were), Short Path kicked our asses in flip cup. Looking at the above picture, I can hardly imagine how
And while we're still on about jollytimes, it behooves us to mention that we now* have Krampus shirts! These sweet (and comfy!) long-sleeve beauties feature an ugly-sweater-style print of our favorite anti-santa (and/or the inspiration for one of our favorite winter beers) and they were originally printed as an employee-only thing a little ways back but we liked 'em so much we wanted to share them with the world and anyway they're here and now you can get one!
Picture
KRAMPLMUNZ
Anyway, since we're theoretically here to talk about beer, let's talk about beer! First up is this week's trusty Thursday cask and this time around it's the return of our favorite beer to cask up on cask: Extra Naked! And since it wouldn't really be a cask unless we crammed a whole bunch of other stuff in there (with the exceptions being all those times that we don't do that), we went and jammed in a buncha Mass-grown Centennial and it's gonna be tasty as heck!
Picture
Yes, cask is great and you are great and Thursdays are great so come drink  a great amount of beer
And keepin' that ol' beer train rollin' for a bit, we gots to tell you about Ozzy! Ozzy a caramel porter named after a dog and we actually released it last week (so in other words it's available right now) only we spent a day or two keepin' the release on the lowdown for surprise-related reasons but that cat's no longer in that dang ol' bag and that's a good thing because Ozzy (the beer, not the dog) is straight-up delicious and you should come enjoy some with us!
Picture
Not pictured: Ozzy (the dog, not the beer). These are his very pleased humans
And if you're a fan of dark beer in cans then you're in luck because this Friday we're releasing another dark beer in cans! This one, called Dark Humor, is kinda-sorta a belated birthday beer for our own anniversary celebrations that we held back in August. See, we had a bit of a last-minute lineup change for the bands at our anniversary party (long story) and new-to-us SkyTigers stepped up to play the Friday set and we were pretty much completely blown away. And while it's one of our favorite things ever to brew a beer for every band that plays at our party, SkyTigers was added to the roster with, like, two days to spare and brewing beer takes... more than two days.

Anyway long story short(er) we met up with the band and they wanted us to make a big ol' imperial stout with a pinch of vanilla and a sprinkle of cinnamon** and it may have taken a little (very) longer than we expected but it's out in a few days and it's damn good and you should have some!
Picture
The band wanted those specific adjuncts to "take that shit back from white girls" and we wholeheartedly approve this message
Oh! And! Speaking of dark beer in cans, cans of El Pulpo will be back on Friday for all your holiday shotgunning needs!
Anyway, gettin' down to the nitty and/or gritty of the hip haps around the taproom, we're kickin' things off on Thursday with more Simpsons trivia! There's almost definitely a theme (other than "The Simpsons" of course), and Chris probably told us what it was but we're just gonna go ahead and pretend that he was being mysterious about it to surprise y'all or something and anyway it'll be fun and you should come!

And then on
Friday we got eats in the house! Bonetown is gonna be poppin' up with some tasty-ass BBQ startin' around and you should come getcha some!
Picture
Funtimes!
Then on Saturday we're keepin' on keepin' on with our Holiday Market Series and this time around we'll be featuring new-to-us artists Michelle Maroon and Katie Lane! They'll be hangin' in the taproom from noon 'til four and showcasing a bunch of art in a variety of mediums*** and you should come check it out!

And if you needed any more incentive to come hang out on Saturday, we're also gonna have The 'Nada Cart in the house starting at 2PM!
*nudge nudge* finish your holiday shopping in our taproom *nudge nudge*
And then on Sunday, we're keepin' that Holiday Market going with photographs from our very own Matt Darcy! You may also know Matt as our heavy metal trivia host or "that bartender with the ice cream tattoos" or you might know him by his Photographer Name**** (which is Bananamasher, by the way) but no matter how you slice it, he'll be slingin' photos in the taproom from noon until four (i.e. until right before we close for the day. Remember how we're closing early? From several paragraphs ago?) and you should come out and check it out!
Aaaand I was gonna end this by continuing my relentless shouting about Horatio Day (our upcoming made-up-holiday-and-barrel-aged-beer-extravaganza that takes place the weekend of January 7th) only we're still "finalizing" a couple of the "details," like the "beer menu" and probably "several other things." But! Even if we can't spill all the beans on the details just yet, we can tell you that it's gonna be fun as hell and you should come hang out with us!
Picture
Our ears are already ringing from all the good-natured yelling (at birds?)
* We've actually had them for a week or two, but sometimes your humble author(s) get to forgettin'.
** Truth be told, they originally said they wanted a pumpkin stout, which would have been released in early November (i.e. immediately after everybody stops buying pumpkin beer for ten months). Maybe next year.
*** Yes, I know that the plural of "medium" is "media," but that sounds weird.
**** Is... is this a thing? Do photographers usually come up with "street names" like rappers do? Or is this just a Matt thing?

In Which We Tease Some Fancy Goblets

12/1/2021

Hello again, friends! We're still shakin' off the last remnants of the ol' Annual Turkey Coma, but we've got a bursting-at-the-seams bottle fridge (with, somehow, unbelievably, more bottle releases on the way in the relatively near future) and a buncha cool popups and events to help ease us back into reality (or at least a reasonable facsimile thereof) and anyway let's get on with it!
Picture
SO. MANY. BOTTLES.
First on up, we have the triumphant return of something that almost* nobody's been asking for and that's cask! And this week's cask is a bit of a special somethin' in that this cask is the only time you'll see this particular beer available in our taproom. Well, sort of, anyway. See, our wild fermentation beers (Critters et al.) start out as "normal" beers and every so often we brew something for the sole purpose of gettin' funkified (as opposed to taking an existing beer and cramming it full of Brett, which also happens). Anyway, this particular base beer is a straightforward number with a strong focus on a grain we wanted to get to know a little bit better (specifically Nor'east Gold from Stone Path), so we filled a cask and threw in a handful of one of our favorite hops (namely galena) and it's on tap on Thursday and you should come drink some with us!
Picture
(And gaze upon our wonderfully festive taproom while you're here)
And speaking of Thursday, this Thursday is Audio Triviality night! We probably should have mentioned this last week, but we were a bit caught up making jokes about gravy or whatever. Anyway, this month's theme is Satan Claws Comes to Town and it is - as you might expect - Christmas and/or holiday themed!
Picture
50/50 Matt shows up decked out as such
Aaaand moving right on further along into the weekend we're kickin' things off strong with the triumphant return of HotChix on Friday! They'll be settin' up shop at six and, if previous visits are any indication (and they might not be, they haven't been here since The Before Times), we'd recommend you get in line early to guarantee yourself some sandwich action!
Picture
SOON
Then on Saturday we're probably definitely gonna be releasing a super secret can-only beer, but that's really all we can say right now so we'll just move right along to gettin' all giddy about the start of the Holiday Market Series! We're bringin' in local artisans/vendors/whathaveyou all month long (and more often than not we're bringin' in some eats as well) so's you can Shop Local This Holiday Season and anyway the first one is on Saturday and this time around we're bringin' in PolkaDog Bakery! They'll be here from 12-4 with a whole buncha fancy (and, if you're willing to take our dogs' word for it, extremely tasty) dog treats! And if you happen to be peckish on Saturday afternoon we've got new-to-us Kuya's Cooking serving Filipino food from 2-6 and we can't wait to try it!
Picture
Definitely better than a Wal-Mart gift card, just sayin'
And moving on to Sunday we're keepin' that Holiday Market train rolling with art from Adam Cutler! You've probably definitely seen his work hanging in our taproom (he designed the Audio Triviality poster and also we've just got a bunch of his stuff up on the walls) and he'll be hangin' out from 12-4! And (on a largely unrelated note) if you wanna learn how to make sushi after you check out some cool art, Chef Harold is back on Sunday for another sushi class!
Picture
Monstergiftsmonstergiftsmonstergifts
And since we're in the throes of Holiday Fever it behooves us to drop a little teaser about our upcoming made-up holiday: Horatio Day! Long story short (for those of you not "in the know"), on the weekend of January 7th-9th we'll throwing a birthday party for Horatio, our dapper little logo dude! We'll be tapping a bunch of barrel-aged and/or strong beers (in addition to our already-rad menu) and maybe cracking a bottle or two that we've had squirreled away and we'll probably release a new beer or two on top of all that and there's special merch and a Horatio lookalike contest that usually just results in people being creeped out** by the sight of Jared in skeleton makeup and there's tasty food and probably cake and the point is that it's a damn good time and you should come hang out with us! And if you're the "likes cool glassware" type, we figured we'd "sweeten the deal" by makin' sure you can get your mitts on one of the sweet-ass goblets that we worked up, which is to say we're gonna be starting preorders this Friday! Woo!
Picture
2022 brings the glorious return of gold-rimmed goblets
Oh! And! Lastly! We've declared our winner(s) for November's coloring contest! Adequate work, everybody!
* Hi Dan!
