In Which the "New Normal" Comes Back to Haunt Us

Howdy, friends! It looks like this summer is in some ways gonna be a repeat of last summer, with frustratingly-vague (yet somehow oddly-specific) rules being issued from On High every 45 minutes or so. Anyway, we're still receiving "guidance" on all that, but we've got a few words about a few things, so let's cut the shuck and jive and get to it!

Firstly and most vaguely, it was just announced that the outdoor mask restriction was "eased," but only "where social distancing is possible." That... doesn't apply to us? Probably? And also it doesn't mean anything? Despite having an effective date, there's no actual concrete changes. Anyway, there's no real way to keep that kind of distance from other people in our beer garden unless you're sitting, and at that point you've probably already got your mask off, which makes it irrelevant. I dunno, this one is confusing (see? Just like last year!).

Secondly, on May 29th, breweries are allowed to open (FINALLY), as long as they don't open their dance floors. Honestly, we've heard the term "dance floor" far more times while reading covid guidance than we have in the past decade, which kind of seems like somebody in the State House has a whole thing about dance floors,* but we digress. The real gist of the jib here is that (as far as we can tell, at this point) won't need to require food orders in order to sell drinks... starting in over a month. You won't be surprised to learn that we think this is a bunch of hooey, considering the number of giant venues who never had to do crap like this (say, for example, a baseball rink that recently stopped being a mass-vaccination site because sports are more important than health), but we've played along for this long** so we might as well see it through.

But after you cut through all the mumbo-jumbo, it's best to take a step back and realize what's really important here, and that would be beer. And on that note, we've got two new beers for you this week (and neither of them is a beer that we released last week but forgot to mention in last week's blog, that's for sure) and we have a cask and as luck would have it we're also all stocked up on all your hot dog needs, so read on and/or drink up!

First on up, available in cans right now is SaBRU! We took a buncha wild 'n coconutty Sabro and paired it up with the beguilingly pineapple-forward BRU-1 and we jammed a crapton of each into one fermentor and it's tasty as heck and it's out now and you should drink some!

Next up on that ol' drinkin' docket is cask! This time around, we took our favorite beer to drink on cask - namely Extra Naked - and we jammed in a bunch of cool-sounding new-to-us hops that SOMEbody*** kinda forgot to write down so it'll be a tasty surprise for all of us on Thursday!

And, lastly but far from leastly, we've got us another can release on Friday! This one's a hoppy saison featuring El Dorado® and it's called Cone Crusher! The name is definitely a reference to hop cones and not an endorsement of people driving over the traffic cones that our neighbors leave all over the parking lot (you know, the ones with aggressive right-wing political stickers on their trucks? The ones who yell at you if you park in the parking lot?). Either way it's gonna be tasty and you should come grab a can or four!

* Fun (albeit tangential) fact: we get charged more for music licensing if we, and I quote, "allow dancing." So in other words: for legal reasons we have decided to side with the town council from the first half of Footloose.
** We would remove our food requirement in a show of solidarity/protest, but there are legitimate concerns that - if we were to do so - the local hot dog industry would suffer irreparable damage

In Which CASK

Howdy-do kiddos and squiddos! We're very excited to say that this week we're bringin' back something that at least three of you have asked us for, and that means cask!

Yes indeedy, this Thursday we're firin' up the ol' beer engine and tappin' up a cask of our tasty lil' stout: Tres Brujas! And while we do like to use the cask program to play around and experiment a bit (read: throw a bunch of weird shit in our beer and see what happens), we feel like Tres Brujas stands out on its own quite nicely, thankyouverymuch, so we figured we'd tap it up straight-up and as-is and it's gonna be tasty as heck and we have no idea how long the cask will last so you should come getcha some!

And if you're lookin' for something that's a little more "brand spankin' new," at some point(s) this week we'll be releasing a brand spankin' new fruity grisette: Passion (Fruit) Project! If you were looking for an answer to the question of "what would happen if we put an irresponsible amount of passionfruit into one beer," then you're in luck because it'll be on draft probably Thursday (and definitely Friday) and in cans Sunday* and you can come find out for yourself! Cheers!

* We had to push it back from Friday (our usual can release day) because sOmEbOdY needs to get a vAcCiNe and he happens to be the one that knows how to use the canning line.

In Which Cask Soothes the Savage Beast

Howdy friends! We had such a good time releasing new beers and/or old favorites last week that we decided to do the same dang thing this week, so check out all the new and/or returning stuff we got goin' on!

First on up is a brand new beer: Pepite Pale! It's been a minute since we've showcased the aromatic goodness that comes from the hops grown by our friends at Four Star Farms, so we set out to fix that! We've been using Pepite since pretty much day one (it's in two of our four year-round beers) and we think it's a delightful centerpiece for a pale ale and that's a good thing because Pepite Pale is on tap today!

And speaking of tasty beers on tap, we're bringin' back Henrietta! Thassright, our beloved summer seasonal is makin' her bright red reëmergence into the beer garden - in cans on Friday and on draft probably Thursday!

And while we're bringin' back the biggest hits of the past several years, we're also bringin' back Out of Bounds! This vaguely-classic-American IPA is brewed for our friends at Thomson Country Club, but also we like it enough that we serve it in our taproom and anyway it's going on tap soon! (as in, as soon as we free up a draft line.)

Oh! Also! Since we're talkin' about bringing back good things (and, in particular, things that we get asked about on a daily basis*), we're gonna be bringing back cask! Next week! We'll be kickin' things off with a cask of tasty-ass Tres Brujas on Thursday the 22nd and we're aimin' to keep it going on a weekly-ish basis until it gets hot enough out that nobody wants to drink warm-ish beer,** so keep them eyes peeled for future cask times!

* This is normally where I'd single out the person who has been most adamant/loud about championing the cause, but there are surprisingly many of you who have demanded we bring back cask and/or made threats about what would happen if we didn't.
** Probably sometime in June? But also given the fact that we've been blessed with an actual spring this year, it seems like summer may exact its payment early as well.

In Which There Are Some Throwback Beers

Well hello there! We're gettin' right on back into the "swing of things" and in this case that swing means more beer, so read on and/or drink up!

First on up, we're bringin' back a beer that's near and dear to our hearts and which definitely doesn't trigger any unsettling memories from this time last year, and by all that we mean that we re-brewed Tres Brujas and it'll be in cans on Friday! Yes indeedy, this beer has a bit of a fun history around here - it started as a three-way collaboration (between us, Remnant, and Widowmaker) and it ended up being one of the first ever beers that we canned (Wellington and Key Lime were the actual firsts) and we got all jazzed to have a big ol' release party with a bunch of our cool beer friends, and then... well, you get the idea. Anyway, our pals at Remnant re-brewed their version again and we thought that was a rad idea so we did it too and you should come drink some!

And speaking of blasts from the past (except kind of not really), we're also releasing a re-imagined version of our first-ever brew at Bone Up: Honey 'n Hops! We may have gotten a bit hasty on re-brewing this beer for the fifth (FIFTH!) anniversary of our first brewday (the actual date is next month), but we got all excited and it'll be in cans on Friday and on draft hopefully sooner!

This beer is gonna be a smidge different than its original incarnation - partly because we've learned a thing or two over the past five years (honestly I'd be pretty upset if we hadn't), partly because literally everything has changed in this brewery since we last brewed this beer (I was gonna say "we've changed everything but the building itself," but the building has gone through both structural and cosmetic changes since then), and partly because the original recipe was kind of weird.

Anyway, we thought it would be fun to hearken back to simpler times when our biggest worries were the fact that the brewhouse would melt if we turned it on (that's a story for a different time) or the fact that the building department seemed to have a grudge against our landlord and/or us (I guess there are some things that never change). Anyway, this big little beer is crammed full of a bunch of local grains and local hops and a huge amount of honey that we definitely didn't order by accident, so you should come raise a glass with us!
