*** Two saplings and a pile of mulch. It's the legal minimum that's required before you can call it "landscaping" and not just "a spill in the parking lot at Lowe's."
Howdy do, have we got a blog for you! And we bring news! On the plus side, we can finally announce the long-awaited* arrival of the rest of our flagship beers! On the downside, there's been a nontrivial uptick in "machete-related incidents." Don't worry, it's for science. And to commemorate this momentous** occasion, we're having a tasting featuring all four flagships at Giles Fine Wine in Medford this coming Saturday from 1-3pm! You've been to tastings before, you know the drill: we show up, growlers-in-hand; you show up and politely nod until we finish awkwardly stammering and hand you some beer. It'll be fun! And what's more, our parking lot got (partially) paved! And there's landscaping!*** We don't entirely know what this means in the Grand Scheme of Things (i.e. whether or not it's a harbinger of our actually-long-awaited opening) - we still need to get approval from a handful of departments in City Hall - but at the very least, you can now walk through the parking lot without wondering if your tetanus booster is up to date. Progress! Asphalt never looked so good! We are now taking name submissions for the two saplings out front... Go! * Not really
** Medium-notable *** Two saplings and a pile of mulch. It's the legal minimum that's required before you can call it "landscaping" and not just "a spill in the parking lot at Lowe's." Howdy and hello! It's been yet another week o' keggin' and growlin' and brewin' away! This wave of hot days we've been having as of late has proven perfect for Key Lime White, and in our continued pursuit of Scientific Knowledge we decided to haul ass down to the Jersey Shore and give our brews some rigorous beachside testin'! Pictured: science And since we don't operate at anything less than Full Speed around here, we made the admittedly questionable decision to cram a week's worth of maxin' and relaxin'* into two days. It's been a flurry of beachside beers and impromptu naps and a little bit of recon at breweries run by our newfound faraway friends, all in the pursuit of our noble goal - making great beer for your mouth! Forcing ourselves to relax... at someone else's brewery! And after all this rigorous scientific testing, we can conclusively say: Key Lime White** tastes completely good as hell at the end (or middle) of a long day at the beach. So grab yourselves a growler or two, a stack o' red Solo cups, and head on down to the sandy shore! * Though for tax reasons, we're still calling it "research."
** Black Witow was a surprisingly close second in terms of beachworthiness. The low hops and opaque blackness help it stand up to the sun quite nicely (assuming your glass stays full long enough for that to become an issue). Hello again! It's time for more fun facts & fables from your favorite suds-slingin', servomyces-sustainin' set o' spouses!* First and foremost, we'd like to thank our gracious hosts over at Social Wines for having us in for a tasting (which was, not coincidentally, the first public unveiling of Key Lime White Ale) this past Saturday! Pictured: liquid happiness. Things went quite well, if we do say so ourselves (not that we'd expect any less from a classy establishment such as that) - we sampled some samples, we met some hella great people,** and - most importantly (to us) - everybody really seemed to enjoy the beers! This was the first time that anybody other than us got to try the first of our Year Round Beers, and we are just the most excited that people like drinking it.*** Now, if you missed out this past weekend, don't fret! In addition to Social Wines, we restocked the coolers of City Liquors, Kappy's, Giles, Busa, and Wine Press over the last couple days with fresh growlers of Key Lime (plus, Warehouse, Black Witow, and Bone Smasher)! I'll admit that we weren't entirely anticipating the popularity of growlers in beer/liquor stores, but we're For It. Meanwhile, in news of things that pretty much nobody but us cares about (I'd put a link here, but honestly just about any blog post from prior to April of this year fits that description), our bar footrails are in! And it's kind of shocking how much of a difference they make. It's not something that we viewed as "strictly necessary," especially because lately we've been focusing our attention on frivolous things such as "brewing tasty beer" and "fretting about yeast." But we got tired of having nothing to rest our feet on while drinking (who are we, hobos?), so we decided to Take the Plunge... and call Jared's dad and ask him to help us.**** And I gotta tell ya - the bar has never been more comfortable to sit at! Plus, now we no longer have to trip over a pile of gigantic oak beams every time we walk through the room, which is nice. And as an added treat (for us, anyway), our new friend Phil came out during our most recent brewday to take a few photos! Good times were had by all, and oh man do those pictures look good! We are, as you might expect, pretty used to what the brewery looks like (both in-person and in our hastily-snapped phone pictures) but seeing it as depicted by somebody with actual photography skill (and equipment) was like seeing the place with fresh eyes. Check it out! * Spice? I feel like there's no good way to pluralize that word.
** We'd like to extend a special Thank You to those of you who came out for the express purpose of trying our beer! That is - to be perfectly honest - incredibly flattering. *** I realize how that might sound weird, since we like the beer (we wouldn't sell it if we didn't), but it's a surprisingly humbling/nerve-wracking experience unelashing a new beer into the Drinking Public. **** To be fair, he did build the damn thing, so it's only fitting that he was the one to put in the Final Piece. And also we're still kind of bad at woodworking when we don't have Adult Supervision. Oh hi there! We done had us another routine week of the daily grind down here at the ol' beer factory - haulin' grains and stirrin' mashes and fillin' kegs and tryin' our damnedest not to get too many weird chemicals in our eyes;* all in the name of making sure that the fine folks in our fair city/general metropolitan area get the freshest and tastiest of suds to sip on! Shut Up! And our efforts have not gone unrewarded - thanks to a few marathon sessions of growler filling and keg delivering, you can get fresh-as-heck Bone Up brews in a wide variety** of the finer establishments in and around Boston!*** That's one hell of a great feeling for us, considering that just a few short months ago we didn't even know when we'd be allowed to brew. And now we're on tap in bars that we used to go to back when we had free time! They grow up so fast. Speaking of which, in some news that's near and dear to our hearts in a couple ways - we're unleashing Key Lime White on the world this weekend at Social Wines in South Boston! We'll be dolin' out samples in the delightful embrace of some sweet sweet air conditioning,**** and this'll be your first chance to try Key Lime! So come on by and grab a growler for all those fun summer outings like barbecues or drinking on your front stoop (and for those of you that still aren't completely sold on the whole "fruity white beer that's honestly not all that white" thing, we'll also be pouring Warehouse and Black Witow). We know you've got rainbow beach balls to chase and leftover fireworks to burn your fingertips with, but consider how much better those things would be with our beer in tow! And I gotta say, we're pretty stoked for this - not only is Key Lime the first of our four planned year-round beers, but we get to release it at our own neighborhood liquor store! That may or may not sound like a big deal, but Social Wines is where we've been buying beer for years; and every time we did, we'd stare longingly at the shelves and determinedly mutter (occasionally to the surprise of those within earshot) "some day, my beer is gonna be on that shelf." And now it is! Holy hell! Can't beat that packagin' date. * With what I'll call "modest success."
** By "wide variety" I clearly mean both bars AND liquor stores. *** Though it skews pretty heavily towards the areas north of the city, since that's where we're located. **** After you go through a few mid-July brewdays, air conditioning starts to seem like an unbelievable miracle. |
