First up and finally on tap after all this waiting* is Bullhead! We've talked about this beer moderately extensively before, and it's something of a staff favorite 'round these parts, so it will suffice to say that it is tasty and you should drink some because it is on tap right now.
Dang on a thang, it's just about high time we got some new beers all up in, so it's right-durn good news that we got some new beers all up in, boy howdy! First up and finally on tap after all this waiting* is Bullhead! We've talked about this beer moderately extensively before, and it's something of a staff favorite 'round these parts, so it will suffice to say that it is tasty and you should drink some because it is on tap right now. Pro tip: best enjoyed with a big hunka crusty bread covered in melty Brie and fig jam. Also on tap now is a shot outta right field: Danzig Super IPA! If you remember and/or were a fan of them "smoothie" beers we did in the past, you ain't really need much of a primer on what all this is about. But if you ain't been here since old times, the short 'n' skinny is that we have a buncha small amounts of every hop variety that we've used over the past weeks and months - dubbed Misfit Hops in the parlance of our times - and whenever the Misfit Hop Bag in our freezer gets too full we dump the whole dang thing into one beer and call it a day. We named the first one Green Smoothie and then just kinda kept on with that naming convention until the relatively-recent trend of naming beers after other, lesser, blended drinks and so we changed the name in effort to dispel confusion. Anyway, Danzig is big and fruity and maybe a touch boozy and we'll never be able to make this exact recipe again so come on out and get it! You're in for a straight-up treat with this one. And what's more, we've got a couple tasty lil' beauties sittin' around, waitin' in the wings, just itchin' to get tapped, alls we gotta do is drink some tasty beers (specifically Nerd Farm and Windy Man and Jaunty) and free up a draft line and then we get rewarded with even more tasty beers! Aaaaaand that's all we've got to say about that for now. And speaking of beers what are tasty, we got Nerd Farm Grisette on cask this week! There's nothin' like a light, bright lil' session beer to take your mind off the howling maelstrom (or at least damp grossness) that's raging/lurking outside, so that's exactly what we're tapping this Thursday! I wish I had something sassy to say about this beer but honestly it's just real good And this Thursday is a very special Thursday indeed, because it brings with it another installment of Audio Triviality! And somewhat appropriately, the theme this month is "Food" and we're not completely certain how that ties in with music trivia, but we're sure as heck stoked to find out and you should join us! Speaking of things we're stoked about, our friends from T'ahpas 529 are swingin' through the taproom this Friday to do a Spanish tapas pop up! They're new to us on the pop up front, but we've had their food a time or two before and holy hell do they make some good eats and we got the fresh beer pairing action to go with 'em so come on by and have some delicious food! The specifics of the menu might not get revealed to us until day of, but there sure was a lot of excited scribbling and mumbling from Chef Lorenzo... rest assured it gon' be good Also on the good food front, though hardly newcomers to the taproom by this point, we've got our friends from Matilda's slingin' pastelitos in the taproom on Saturday! Food that comes deep fried in its own eatin' pouch? Sign me up! Also on Saturday, if you happen to be located just a smidge further south, we'll be at our first-ever barrel aged beer fest: More Wood in Norwood! The fest is put on by our friends at Castle Island (I think?) and to put our "best foot forward" we're bustin' out an old favorite - Doomrider, to be specific - and another log of that blink-and-you'll-miss-it treat from this past Saturday: Apple Brandy Barrel Aged Shelby! It gon' be a party, I tells you what. Tickets right here: More Wood in Norwood The taproom's gonna get good grub on Sunday as well - Mr. Tamole is back in the house doin' what he do best, and what he do best is make good tastes so we gon' be there! Pictured: good taste (in chile verde form). (Almost) lastly, as we close out this very spooktacular month, the weather has started to remind us of this thing it does every year (turn from pleasant to terrible), so we're shifting into winter hours starting this week: I know, it's not a crazy change, but still worth mentioning. And! The end of the month means another coloring contest has come to a close. We had a lot of stein entries this month, and our grand prize goes to Trevor F.: good jorb! @tmoneygolf We'd also like to thank everyone for coming out to party with us this past weekend at the Halloween Spooktacular! We've got three sets of winners from our costume contest, check out these spooky suits: "Horatio and Hermione" "How to Train Your Dragon" "Tooth Fairy" * Like, almost a whole week
Well hello there! It's gettin' to be that time of year again, so hold on to your butts and get ready for the most spooktacular fun you can have outside of that one time you played "spin the bottle" in that weird cursed crypt and your friend Kevin may or may not have hooked up with a mummy... First up on this avalanche of spooktacularity, our friendly neighborhood hot dog chef (John from Brato) apparently got tired of making the hot dogs that we had been selling, and now we've got different ones - they've got a bit more of a kick to 'em and come with a spicy sauce and picked veggies on top! They are quite delicious and you should try one. But! If you ain't lookin' for meats fresh off our Craft Snack Rotisserie® then that ain't no worry because all dang weekend we're gonna have candy! A little ways back we all "took one for the team" and wrote up a fairly extensive set of beer and candy pairings for everything on our menu (a chocolate candy and a fruit candy to pair with each beer) and we ate so much candy that night that now I can't even think about Almond Joy without getting a little queasy but also really wanting Almond Joy (ideally paired with Wasted Life* - seriously, it's pretty much the best). Anyway, we got candy and it's free with the purchase of beer all weekend! Woohoo! The aftermath. Anyway, speaking of Brato, we've got a cask of Showdown back from the dead, but never you worry - it's still very alive... with flavor! (That... that doesn't even make sense, but whatever, I'm trying). Anyway, it's on tap Thursday! For yet more spooktacular treats as we build towards the height of costumes and candy, on Friday we've got Eat More Mexican up in the house bringin' the burritos from six 'til ten! Though sadly, it looks like enjoying them on the patio might not be the most realistic. And for the main** event, this Saturday is our Halloween Spooktacular! We'll be givin' out prizes for best costumes and throwing candy around willy-nilly and there'll be barbecue from SmokeShop! So if you wanna get all gussied up in your finest costume duds and have some tasty beers and meats and sweets (or if you want to wear your work clothes, only with a different nametag or something as the lowest-effort "costume" you can think of) come on by! And don't worry, no pumpkins were harmed (or included) in the making of our beers. And to go along with all this deliciousness, we're bustin' out a new twist on an old favorite: barrel-aged Shelby! This fine lil' beauty has been slumbering peacefully in apple brandy barrels since we last saw her and we figured we'd wake her up just for this party (and possibly at some other point after that, too) and hoo-boy are there some good tastes all up in! But you ain't gotta take my word for it - we'll have it on tap starting at noon on Saturday! Plus, if you missed out on a pupper glass last time, now's your chance to snag one. Then once we plow through our limited stock of Barreled Shelby, we're finally reuniting with our long-lost-love: Bullhead! We've talked about this beer pretty much a jillion times in the past so for now it suffices to say that this is a favorite around here and we're always pretty durn stoked when it's Bullhead Season and that season is now so come drink some with us! (Before the staff drinks it all) And on a final note, we gots some navel gazin' and good times to share with you! Running this brewery is hell of hard work most days, but every once in a while we get to travel into the world and do some pretty neat stuff! And this past weekend, we got to do just that - travelling all the way through Pennsylvania with beer in tow to pour at the Brewtal Beer Fest! It's a festival where breweries get paired up with (mostly death metal) bands to make a whole buncha special collab brews and then there's a big ol' all day concert to enjoy the beer at (we may have mentioned it one or a thousand times this fall if you talked to us in the taproom)! We got paired up with one of our favorite bands - Black Tusk - and brought a delicious lil' amber ale (spiked with bright orange peel) to share with the lovely people of Pittsburgh. We had a blast, and we'd certainly be remiss if we didn't post some pictures of all the new friends we made! A very limited sample of the fest crew! Here's production staff from Spoonwood Brewing, Weyerbacher Brewing, us (duh), Rock Bottom Brewery, Bold Missy Brewing, and KCBC! Us and (most of) the guys from Black Tusk at - we were lucky enough to hang out and share an Orange Red Dead with them for a minute at the fest! On the way home, we made a pit stop in Queens to brew a dark brett beer with our pals from Big aLICE Brewing. It won't be ready for a while, but be sure to check out their taproom if you're ever out their way. They are great dudes making great beers. * Almond Joy also pairs really well with Twix, we found out.
** Most crowded. Hello friends! Now that we got our jack o' lanterns all carved up and ready to go, we're preppin' up for the Spooktacular Times ahead and in the meantime we thought you might like some good times and some tasty treats so that's what we've got! Kickin' things off on Thursday we've got our weekly cask, and this time around we're takin' a brief breather from dark beer to tap something that's a bit more relevant to the events of the weekend: Orange Red Dead! And just to "kick things up a notch" we jammed that sucker fulla fresh 'n' fruity Idaho 7! Yasss And why, praytell, is Orange Red Dead relevant to the events of the weekend? Well, we brewed that beer for Brewtal Fest - more specifically, it was made in collaboration Black Tusk(!) to pair with their set - and that fest is this dang ol' weekend! The downside (for many/most of you) is that the fest is in Pittsburgh, which is mostly known for being a bit of a drive* from Boston, so it might take a bit of planning if you want to go. But if you do go it's certain to be fun as hell because there's tons of great bands playing and even more great breweries and ok fine you get the point I'll stop rubbing it in. Anyway, things ain't stop movin' at Home Base when our road crew is on the road, and this Friday we're workin' with our friends at Brato and also the American Lamb Board (which is definitely something we had heard of before this event) and we're hosting a Lamb Jam! There's gonna be lamb sausages and beer pairings and... that's probably about it, but it's gonna be tasty! Hot diggity lamb that is one heckuva sausage special Speaking of meats that taste good, we're havin' our cured beef friends from Kalahari Biltong in the house on Saturday and they'll be dishin' out some good tastes for all your sampling needs! I do not believe the boots are included in the sampling. Could be wrong tho Lastly, we gotta put in a plug for our Halloween Spooktacular that we're throwin' on Saturday the 27th. There's gonna be a costume contest and prizes and oh hell yes there's gonna be tasty barbecue during the day and also there's gonna be beer and candy pairings all dang weekend! Now, I admit that our Candy Game might have been a smidge lackluster last year, so to pay our penance this time around we spent a good long time over the weekend eating candy and tasting beer in order to come up with just the right pairings and then we spent an even longer time feeling kind of gross because it turns out that eating a full pound of candy and then chasing it with three beers isn't always the best idea in the world - though we do encourage you to find out for yourself next week! The aftermath of our staff candy pairing. WE DID IT FOR YOU ...Anyway we almost forgot the OTHER best part: Apple Brandy Barrel Shelby! Remember Shelby? The lightly-smoky imperial stout that came in a sweet special glass? A glass which we still have in stock and whose proceeds go to a good cause? Anyway, we were rather smitten with Shelby and so we decided to give our future selves a present in the form of barrel-aged Shelby! She's been resting in an apple brandy barrel all year (since New Year's Day, if memory serves) and she's ready to come out and mingle and delight your tastebuds once more so we figured we'd show her off at our Halloween party! And oh man, age has done her wonders - the smoke may have faded, but it's been replaced by heaps of dark fruit and chocolate and vanilla and coconut and oh man it's so good (though we don't have a lot, so if you wanna getcha some, we suggest you do it as soon as she's tapped). ... Mostly because we gon' drink it all ourselves if you don't stop us * Places that are closer to Pittsburgh than Boston include: Detroit, Indianapolis, and Louisville - none of which are places we consider to be "near Pennsylvania."
Hello again! This might be the first time in a while (and will likely be the last time for a while) that we don't have any brand-spankin' new beers comin' out for y'all to enjoy. But! We do have some fresh batches of some Old Favorites that are finding their ways into our lives right about right now! First on that ol' chopping block - as in, on tap now - is Ruby Rye Mild! Nothing quite eases you into the crisp briskness of fall quite like something easygoing and brownish, so we brought back this lil' ol' delight! A little ways past that, on tap at some point whenever in heck we manage to free up a draft line (hint: drink some DNA), we're bringin' back Bullhead Vienna Ale! This toasty, fruity little number is a perennial favorite of ours, and harvest time is the perfect time for it so we made a bunch and soon we're all gonna get to drink it! Hooray! Moving on - all the way to Thursday - we've got some spooktacular Simpsons trivia comin' atcha, aptly named (sigh) Brewhouse of Horror! And to pair with all those spooktacular brain busters, we're bustin' out the big guns in the form of tasty snacks! More to the point, Compliments will be dishin' up some cheesy goodness from six until ten! And also on Thursday, we've got a tasty way for y'all to reminisce about all those chili-related fun times we had this past week: The Showdown is on cask! And this ain't no regular ol' Showdown neither, it's right fortified with a buncha cocoa nibs and whoa nelly is that gonna make some good tastes all up ins! Anyway. Enough about Thursday for now, because we've got some rad shit lined up for the rest of the weekend too! On Saturday we've got Wood + Fire comin' straight outta Melrose (from noon until four) with a whole shitload (possibly several shitloads) of arancini! They're so good, you guys. So good. Also on Saturday, though a bit farther afield, we'll be pourin' at a beer fest on Cape Cod! That's... actually about all I know about this fest (we've worked with the organizers before and their fest game is on point, so we trust it's gonna be a good time), but if you're down that way then you should come say hi and then drink some beer! Then on Sunday we're gettin' right on into the Spooktacular Spirit with some pumpkin carving! We'll have the tools and the pumpkins and some beers for "creative inspiration" so all you gotta do is show up! And then carve a pumpkin! And drink some beer! (I know, it sounds like a lot of things to do for a Sunday, but we're pretty sure it'll be fun as heck) Oh! And! Remember when we released Nerd Farm a couple weeks back? It was brewed with an upcoming beer dinner in mind, and this delectable dinner is happening in Cambridge on Monday evening! Check out the menu below, and meet us at Catalyst in Kendall for a tasty evening!
Howdy, kids! We're back in action and we got lotsa cool stuff goin' on, so here goes! First up, on Thursday, is Audio Triviality! This month's theme is, of course, of the spooktacular variety, which means we're downright stoked for it! And what, praytell, is perfect beer to pair with such spooky noise? Why, none other than Shut Up Kelly! on cask - back from the dead or something.* And if your tastes lean a little on the lighter side, we're releasin' Orange Red Dead this Wednesday! We brewed it up to bring to this cool-ass metal and beer fest that we're going to in a couple weeks, and we're just psyched as heck about it. Even better, this beer was made in collaboration with one of our favorite bands - Black Tusk! So in the event that you find yourself in Pittsburgh at a metal fest and you need the perfect beer to pair with their set, we gotcha covered! Speaking of special beers for special events, we've got another beer coming out this weekend and it's for an event that's way closer to home! The beer in question is a chili-infused lightly-spicy milk stout called The Showdown and oh man it's so tasty! And what of the event in question? Why it's the Chili Showdown that we're hosting to showcase the bitter (and definitely not in any way made up) rivalry between the chefs at Brato and Bonetown Burgers! Things start heatin' up at noon on Saturday and they run until six or until the chili's gone and it's free to enter and $20 gets you a chili flight and a beer and a vote towards who will reign as Chili Supreme until the next beef battle! And just to make your decision a bit harder on Saturday, we'll also be pourin' over at the Mass Fermentational in Worcester! There's a pretty stellar lineup of attendees and The Guild puts on a helluva fest, so there's really no reason why you should miss out (unless, as we mentioned, the reasons are chili-related; in which case we understand). Gazing a bit further into the turbid temporal sea that is the future, we'll be open on Columbus Day (Monday 10/8) until six PM! And bringing things back to beers made for cool events with cool people, we're doin' a beer dinner with Catalyst on Monday 10/15 and that dinner is the whole reason we made Nerd Farm (on tap now!) and that beer is tasty as heck and I reckon it's gonna be even tastier at that beer dinner so you should come and find out with us! It's gonna be a delicious adventure, Itellyawhat. And since we're ramblin' about the future, it ain't a bad idea for us to also mention that on Sunday 10/14 (also known as the day before that beer dinner I just talked about) we're gonna be having pumpkin carving in the taproom! The spooktacular times are here at last! And of course we'd be remiss if we started a whole new month without mentioning the September coloring contest winners! Congrats to Amanda S., our first place winner, and our lovely runners up! @astpierre157 * Because it's been gone for a while? I guess? Cut me some slack, I ain't had time to get into my Spooktacular Groove yet.
