In Which the Spooktacularity Draws to a Close

Howdy and hello! We've got good times galore, for here or to go! We've got trivia and casks and coloring and big stupid cans and pierogi and casks and donuts and maybe a "new" beer thrown into the mix!

And we're gettin' our pre-weekend started strong with another installment of Audio Triviality this Thursday! This time around the theme is The Eighties, which (thankfully) decreases the possibility of Spice-Girl-related questions, but it does come with an increase in the (already proven) potential for Paula Abdul to sneak her way in to the questions, so tread carefully.

Hair metal power hour, here we come!

Plus! As a perfect pairing for all that trivia, we got us some Bullhead on cask! We took a buncha our already-delicious Bullhead and jammed it chock full o' tasty-ass Rakau from Four Star Farms!

It's gonna be bready and fruity and oh-so-fluffy... you do not wanna miss this one!

And then on Friday we've got Jaju Pierogi all up in! We ain't even gotta tell you how good these buttery bites of delight are, but we're gonna anyway! They're so good!

We shall feast!

Speaking of Friday, do y'all remember how we released three dang delicious beers last week? Well if you're extra special good this week - and if you help us finish off the last lil' bit of the beer that's standing in the way* - we'll release another dang ol' beer this weekend too! OG Bone Up fans may remember an old-school IPA by the name of Oh My,** but it's cool even if you don't because we're bringin' it back anyway! It's got loads of some classic American hops that became unpopular before it got all cool to be unpopular, plus a whole buncha the hops that went all mainstream and replaced them!

Then on Sunday we're bustin' out the boxes of brunchy baked goods - namely a boatload of Union Square Donuts! We'll have doughies in the taproom from noon 'til they sell out, and their smaller size means you'll be able to take advantage of all the Fun Fall Flavors we picked out: sea salt + bourbon caramel, apple cinnamon (vegan), pumpkin spice, maple bacon, Vietnamese coffee, and Belgian dark chocolate (vegan). Yum!

You deserve it.

And! And! Since it's a new month, that means we have new coloring contest winners! Adequate job, cats and kittens! Come on in and claim your prizes!

Now that we've (mostly) recovered from our candy comas, we'd like to thank everyone that came out to our Arch Enemies party this past weekend! We had some great entries in the costume contest, but our faves were an, um, creative bunch. Happy Halloween!

And lastly, we gotta end on a bit of a down note - our food truck fun times around here are apparently drawing to an end (starting last week, it turns out), since The Powers That Be (namely, our landlords) have determined that we're not allowed to do that anymore.*** It's a pretty big bummer - we've made some hella cool food friends over the past months and we're pretty sad that we gotta call it quits. But never fret! We'll compensate as best we can by findin' a way to cram more and more snacks into this silly little taproom of ours!

* Hint: it's Lil' Witeon, the beer that nobody can pronounce.
** Or, if you go way back (to before we realized the name was in use already), OHM.
*** In the interest of avoiding things being labeled as libel, we'll leave it up to you to speculate on who might have been the driving force behind this.

In Which the Spooktacularity Heightens

Howdy, cats and kittens! Gather 'round as we spin you a spooktacular yarn of fun times to come!

But before we get to them fun times, we have Important Snack Announcements for you! Starting this week (i.e. today) we're gonna have them big chewy pretzels from Fat Boyfriend Bakery every dang day! Plus chips and a buncha different types of salsa! So for those of you who wander in on a weekday and wanna get your munch on, now we've got you covered!*

This is but the first of many daily snacktacular delights we intend to roll out in the coming weeks!

And speakin' of weekdays, this Thursday we're tappin' another cask of Extra Naked dry hopped with Mass-grown Nugget! And we'll let you in on a spooktacular secret with this one: we like to say that we don't play favorites with our various casks (they're ALL special), but Extra Naked is pretty much the best on cask. Just so you know.

It's just so dreamy good

And if that ain't the sorta thing that strikes your fancy, this Thursday we're also releasin' an entirely new beer, complete with its own sweet glassware! The beer itself is a roasty toasty lil' brown ale called Mo'Biscuits!, and the glass is that purdy thing you see right below all these words! And what's more, we partnered with the Movember Foundation so's we could have this beer come with some charitable givin's! So if you fancy yourself some Mo'Biscuits and you wanna take that sweet glass home wit'cha, the money from said glass sale will be going to a good cause! Better still, the fine folks over at Movember will be gatherin' up a buncha Mo Bros** for some release day good times! Woo, etc.

Then on Friday we're bringin' in some of our comic book friends for an arch-enemies themed party! There's gonna be all kinds of good times and a costume contest and probably candy and - you guessed it - another dang beer release! In the spirit of the event, we cooked up somethin' that we thought would be the arch nemesis of that humble lil' brown ale what got released the day before (you may recall the details of that beer from the previous paragraph). And what sort of beer would have such animus towards a modest ol' brown ale? Probably some kind of purple, hoppy, boozy, tart abomination. So we made that! It's called Purple Smoothie! Try it on Friday!

And that's not all! Bonetown Burgers will be outside doin' what they do best (with a spooky special, no doubt), and we'll have a neighborhood-wide "passport" for your stamping pleasure - visit all three taprooms in the Fermentation District and get your card all stamped up to be entered in a raffle for some sweet FD merch!

Maybe don't put these two next to each other in your flight tray?

And what with all these charities and parties and other assorted goings-on, we straight-up forgot to mention that this week also marks the release of the first beer out of our new(est) tanks: Summoner! While goin' through the ol' hop freezer, we were struck by a hankerin' for the biscuity, citrus-forward pale ales that we grew up*** on, so we made one (and we threw in a lil' dash o' lupulin powder just to spice things up a bit)! It's a nice 'n' easy drinker that may just conjure up a memory or two of questionable decisions past (just like the good ol' days!). We'll be doin' what we can to get it on tap for Friday, but that's assuming that everything behaves the way it should (and it seldom does), so keep an eye out for it at some point!

I'm, like, weirdly stoked for this normal-ass pale ale. Anyone with me?

And on Saturday we're keepin' things rollin' with another cask, and this time it means double Bullhead all up in dis! Awww yeah.****

Probably 'bout as close as we're gonna get to the ever-elusive wet hop version of Bullhead!

*And for those of you who are concerned about the fate of our Pizza Thursdays, never fear: we sure as hell ain't gonna stop dishin' out them delectable-ass slices from Sillari's!
** Their phrasing, not ours.

In Which We Start Keeping Some Promises

Howdy campers! We've got some spooktacular news that just so happens to be a direct byproduct of that Big Expansion we been blabbin' about! You guessed* it - we're expandin' our hours! No longer will you be rebuffed by a locked door and/or upturned stools should you grace us with your presence on a Wednesday evening, as we're now open from 3PM 'til 11PM on Wednesdays! As of today! And as an added bonus, we're also changing our opening time to noon on Thursdays! So come on out and drink some tasty beers whilst being soothed by the dulcet tones (and smells) of beers gettin' brewed (although admittedly it often sounds a lot like that time your cousin Brian accidentally knocked over a decorative suit of armor and then panicked and ran smack into a rack of pots and pans).

Yet another reason to skedaddle away from work a little early!

And what of casks, you ask? Well, we liked that So Nude cask enough that we felt it needed another turn through the beer engine, which means this Thursday's bringin' you more of that MA-grown goodness (and if we do say so ourselves, this one is mighty tasty so we'd suggest gettin' some elbow bendin' practice with this one if you missed it the first time)!

Jimbo's particularly excited for this (as a head cold kept her from trying any last week).

Speaking of things that are good - some of y'all might recall FAO Black Ale and the charitable donations and/or special glassware that went along with it - well, we liked doin' that so much that we decided to do something similar for a different cause! This time around we're partnered up with The Movember Foundation and we're releasing Mo'Biscuits Brown Ale (along with its glassware) on Thursday the 26th!

Glassware is on the way, but don't you worry: it's very silly.

And hot on the heels of that beer release/party, we're gearin' right the heck up for our Arch Enemies Halloween party next Friday! There's gonna be beer and there's gonna be comics** and there's gonna be candy and there's gonna be costumes and it's gonna be a dang ol' good time for all! And since it's an arch enemies themed shindig, we're releasing a beer that we feel is about as far from Mo'Biscuits Brown as you can get: Purple Smoothie Purple IPA! Brewed to pair with the Below Zero comic series, the bad boy's gonna be hoppy and purple and a touch tart and maybe a bit boozy, so get ready to take your tastebuds for a thrill ride!

It's more of a purply pink, but believe you me, there's an irresponsible amount of Purple Stuff in there.

Tanks for the Memories, Lemmy and Glenn

Hi kids! We've got some spooktacular news that you've probably already heard! Thassright - we got us some new tanks this past week and we are just itchin to fill 'em up with tasty beers for you to enjoy!

Tank day (also known as get up at 6:30 and move a literal ton of metal day)!

And for what it's worth (and since we been asked a time or two), these bad mamma jammas are upgrades/replacements for existing equipment (i.e. they're 3.5BBL tanks just like our other ones) which means we ain't gonna be pumpin' more beer out (at least not until we get our next round of new tanks). But that ain't mean this ain't cause to celebrate! We're sayin' goodbye to two of our OG fermentors - Lemmy and Glenn - and replacin' 'em with their sturdier stainless doppelgängers! But you ain't gotta take our word for it that these are some sweet-ass tanks - check 'em out for yourselves!

We hope they play nice together.

And while we're waitin' for our new stainless beauties to get plumbed and wired and cleaned and passivated and sanitized and filled and then emptied (into kegs), we've got some fun times lined up to pass the time!

Startin' out this Thursday we're bustin' out a cask just like old times, and this time it's staff-favorite So Nude that's revvin' up our beer engine! And for your tasting pleasure, we've added a bunch of Pepite dry hops to the cask, so as to compliment the Pepite wet hops! You are in for some tasty times.

How nude? Soooo nude.

Staff-favorite Bullhead returns to the taps on Thursday as well! Our twist on a classic style is made to showcase the toasty breadiness of good ol' Blue Ox grains as well as some freshass fruity hoppiness from our friends at Four Star Farms, giving you the overall impression of jam on toast. This crisp, malty masterpiece ain't gonna disappoint - Prost!

How we've missed you*

Then on Friday we've got Buenas Empanadas comin' back through with delicious treats! Snacks snacks snacks. Snacks!

And for those of you who like to look a little farther into the future (or should I say brewture oh god I'm so sorry please don't fire me), at the end of the month we're tappin' a blast from the past with a spooktacular spin: Purple Smoothie Purple IPA!** Thassright, our bag o' misfit hops done filled up again so we cooked up a big ol' bruiser of a DIPA and then somebody - we can't remember who so we'll just put the blame for this on our cellarman Ben - asked "why don't we make it purple?" So we threw in a buncha fun purple stuff! We're releasing this beast on Friday, October 27 at 5pm to kick off this year's Halloween bash*** so come on out and get your purple on!

And! Since our Halloween bash is arch-enemies themed, we've got another beer release - one that's about as far from a purple IPA as you can get - that same dang ol' weekend! It's gonna be a nice 'n' malty (yet still dry and drinkable) brown ale that we're callin' Mo'Biscuits! And as an added bonus - since we like to cram as much stuff as possible into any given weekend - this beer is being released in cooperation with The Movember Foundation! So in a few weeks, you should come on out and twirl your mustache while cackling diabolically and/or contributing to a good cause!

In Which We Begin to Get Spooktacular

Howdy all! It's that time of the year again - time to fill every available container with candy for "research purposes" and/or use every excuse possible to cram the word "spooktacular" into most of our sentences!

And we're startin' this month off spooktacularly strong with a long weekend! That's right - we'll be open all day on Monday, October 9th for Columbus Day! You might argue that this "isn't a real holiday" but we would probably make the counterpoint that we "don't care" because a lotta people get the day off and days off are made for day drinkin', so come on by!

Speaking of all things spooktacular, Audio Triviality is back this week! Nefarious Realm is comin' through to test your knowledge of goth rock or yodeling or something, so come on out for good times and good beers and probably some good pizza while you're here!

And as always we've got more spooktacular stuff on cask this week! This week we're returning to perennial favorite (of ours, anyway) - Extra Naked! This time around we're doin' dueling casks that pit Old World hops vs. the newest of the new! First up on Thursday is a cask with some hella classic European hop varieties - Czech Saaz and German Magnum, then on Saturday we're trottin' out some experimental BRU-1! It's tradition vs. innovation,* so check 'em both out and see what's what!

In addition to that there cask on Saturday, we've also got Fat Boyfriend bringin' and slingin' the spooktacular snacks! Specifically, they're comin' in laden with hella hand pies of the autumnal variety: pulled pork, harvest tomato and cheese, and apple crisp!

And looking a little farther ahead into this, the most spooktacular of months, we're doin' up a right proper Halloween-style shindig on Friday, October 27th! We're bringin' in some comic book friends for an Arch Enemies themed event with a costume contest and comic book signings and two beer releases** and probably some other stuff!

Also! If you happen to be out Newton way this Friday afternoon - say, at Marty's Fine Wines - then you're in for a special treat because we'll be there too! We'll have samples and growlers and high fives, so come on by and say hi!

And we've got winners/runners-up for September's (admittedly not very spooktacular) coloring contest! Gaze in awe at the wonders they have produced for you!
