Hello friends! Before we get back on that ol' Sass Train, we'd like to take a minute to offer our sincere thanks to everyone who came out this past Saturday and helped make our birthday party an awesome experience - it was a hectic day for us, but it was the best kind of hectic because the place was packed wall-to-wall with friends: some old, some new, some who haven't yet realized that they're our friends but who will definitely appreciate the time we took to make statues of them out of hot dogs and deli meats. We did take more photos, but as it happens it'll take a while to gather up the ones that weren't taken on Jimbo's phone before it died. Meat statues not pictured. More gems next week! And speaking of friends, we can't possibly say enough good things about the bands and the chefs and the bar staff and the hot sauce wizards and the grillmasters and the sound engineers and the maca masters - every single one of them made the day immeasurably better and we couldn't possibly thank them enough. In other words: thanks for being a part of the Bone Up Family. It's been a wild three years, and we're pretty much the luckiest people ever to get to hang out with such a rad group of people. Back row: JackJohn, Ben, Megan, Mike, John, Tom, Matt, Maddy Middle row: Chris, Bubs, Lindsay, Grace, Alyssa Front row: Jared, Jimbo But anyway. Enough navel gazing, we must move forward and/or upward and the first thing on the ol' docket is our regularly scheduled cask on Thursday! This time around it's the return of an old favorite: Extra Naked! And since we were feeling a bit saucy when we filled that cask, we threw in a whole buncha Pepite (which is actually the Secret Code Name for the locally-grown version of another hop)! Our favoritest favorite. Oh! And! Since we've got a lil' ol' "holiday weekend" comin' up, we're doin' more Dollar Dogs! Thassright - all day on Sunday and Monday we're servin' up store-brand hot dogs for a dollar apiece (with purchase)! Because one of the few things as tasty as fresh beer is a good shitty hot dog. Then to follow up on all that long-weekend goodness, on Tuesday we're hostin' 80's-90's cartoon trivia alongside our friends from Deep Cuts Deli! Come on out and enjoy the fun - stupid prizes will abound! Here's hopin' for some Thundercats action figures and Scooby Snacks.
Hi there! Are you ready for our dang ol' birthday party? I sure hope* so, because it's happenin' in just a few short days on Saturday! And as an added bonus, that means we're also close to the time when you won't have to hear us shout about this party constantly and instead you'll get to hear us prattling nonstop about the next thing we're hyperfixated on (so... hot dogs? New bottles? So much to choose from)! Anyway, with a minimum of hickery-jickery and but a modicum of jive, we gon' get on down to it so you can get back to preppin' your party pants! And speaking of our birthday party, we've got one last** "trick" up our "sleeves," which is to say that our buds from Heads Up Screenprinting are gonna be doing live screenprinting at our party! We've got some cool one-time-only designs lined up and some swag to print on, OR you can bring your own dang duds and get 'em printed up on the spot! And to get us in the "party spirit" a couple days early, this Thursday we're tappin' up a cask of Sunken Wit! In case you ain't "in the know," Sunken Wit is a more-or-less classic witbier (with a pinch of extra hops, because this is America dammit) made to pair with the marvelous melodies played by our friends in Sunken City! And since we're fans of jammin' a whole buncha extra stuff (mostly hops) in our casks, we went and jammed a whole buncha Centennial in there! Woo! Oh, and since we're already talkin' about Sunken Wit, we've got Sunken Wit on tap! Right now! This here is one of two beers that we brought back outta the ol' beerchive and rebrewed because we just liked it so dang much the first time and dang but it's good to have this beer back on tap! And if you're more the "something new" type than the "tried and true" type, we got just the thing for you too, because we just tapped up yet another new birthday beer and it's also on right now! This particular beer is the third beer we've brewed (in as many years) to celebrate the music of The Weisstronauts! This time around we brewed up an easy-drinkin' yet sneaky-strong farmhouse called Hoopin' (using some locally-malted triticale) and dang but it's a delight to drink! Also! Lastly! If y'all are extra special good and you polish off that cask of Sunken Wit in time, we'll be tappin' up yet another cask (whose contents are yet to be announced) right when that one kicks! So in other words, your reward for drinking beer is more beer and really, what else could you want? * I'm also really hoping that we're ready. And... we might be? Maybe?
** This is, by no means, the last trick we have up our sleeves. Hey y'all! Did you hear that we're throwin' our birthday party next friggin' week?! Huh? Didja? You did? Fifty times? Oh. Well... do you wanna hear about it again? What do you mean you're "resigned to hearing about this damned party constantly until two weeks after it's over?" Whatever. It's gonna be a lot of fun, and you know it. And speaking of our birthday party, we already talked about high-level details and got into the nitty-gritty details about the beers and our merch sale (and also some more stuff about beer) but we been powerful mum on the subject of food, and that's doing everybody a disservice because we got hella tasty treats lined up! Startin' the day off strong, startin' right at noon we got Brato bringin' the beef for the main course and of course they're rollin' in with ribeye! More specifically, they're gettin' all Fred Flinstone on us and grabbin' the beef by the bone in the form of some tomahawk steaks that they'll be hand-carvin' into some delectable-ass sandwiches! And if you've got a bit of a sweet tooth, Maca Macarons is sidlin' up at the same damn time and dishin' up some delicious Horatio-themed macarons all day! But if your sweet tooth can't be sated that easily, we're also doin' some grilled banana splits from 2 'til 4! Then startin' shortly after that, we're bringin' Alex himself back for the third year in a row to bring some heat to this sucker! Thassright - Alex's Ugly Sauce will be samplin' and slingin' scovilles startin' at 3! Lastly, if you're more of a late(r) night munchies kinda person, right as soon as Brato packs up, we're layin' out a proper Brewer's BBQ! Your humble brewers will be mannin' the grill and/or trying to trick some poor sap into doing it for us and we'll be cookin' up dogs and probably burgers and really anything else that we think needs grillin'! Anyway, bringin' things back to the present, we've got a dilly of a doozy for our trusty Thursday cask this week: Blood Built! If you remember last year's birthday party (i.e. if you aren't the "start the day with a giant mug of 9.5% beer" type*) you may recall havin' this beer on cask and you may also recall that it was on point because this sucker is practically made for cask and anyway it's back and we are just all kindsa chuffed about it! Also on Thursday we got more trivia! This time around the theme is "Summer Blockbusters" so grab your opera glasses** and come win some dumb prizes! Oh! And if you happen to be "out in the world" this Saturday, you should come out to Brew at the Zoo in JP and come say hi! There's beer and snacks and also a good chance you'll get to chase a peacock, which you can only say about, like, 30% of the other beer festivals out there and anyway it'll be fun! * Hi Jeff!
** People still bring opera glasses to the theater, right? Oh hey there! Remember last week when we started gettin' all (preëmptively) excited about all those cool Birthday Beers that we'd been cookin' up "on the sly?"* Well guess what: they're here! Some of them! But first, cheese: Magical, magical cheese. Thassright, this Wednesday (today) is our second Cheese Day featuring Cricket Creek Farms! Their cheeses are hella tasty and if we do say so ourselves they pair up beautifully with the Suggested Beer Flight (which includes one of the aforementioned Birthday Beers, btw) and it's just tasty times on all sides Itellsyawhat. Come visit us from 6-9 tonight and treat yourself! Feta + Key Lime FTW Anyway. Back to beer! The first new and exciting birthday beer (which got tapped over the weekend, and is thus on tap right dang now) is actually the return of an old favorite: Blood Built! We're straight-up cold jazzed as heck to have our friends Blood Built Empire back on our stage for the ol' birthday bash this year, and we couldn't think of a better way to roll out the red carpet than bringin' back this tasty lil' dry stout! Our perfect headbanging beer. Also flowin' through the taps right now is Shadows! The crazy kids from Shadows Bleed Red are newcomers to our humble stage** so we got all kindsa tricksy with the beer for them and took a toasty, bready, malty lil' beer and dumped in a big ol' whack of Italian plums and it's got this crazy marmalade thing goin' on and you should drink some! 2019: Year of the Plum Lastly but not leastly (for now) and also on tap right now is Benthic Realm - the beer we brewed for, um, Benthic Realm! You like hops? We like hops. So we put lots of hops in this beer! Specifically, we put lots of MA-grown Crystal and Centennial from our friends at Four Star Farms all up in there, so you know to expect a heap of fruity, citrusy goodness. All of the fruits. All of the goodness. Oh dang, I almost forgot! Nestled amongst all these new beers on tap, this week's Thursday cask is the (very) last hurrah of taproom-favorite Crystal! And Since we like to do things up and do them right, we tossed in a buncha extra Crystal just for you! Crystal party! And speaking of Thursday we got more Simpsons Trivia comin' atcha this week so come on out and test your cromulence (or at least embiggen your knowledge of Simpsons minutae)! Oh! And! We tapped up the next installment in our Critters series, the cleverly-named Critters 2! Anyway, it's a bit of a departure from the first one - a smidge more malt forward and pouring a crystal clear deep red - it's on draft and in bottles right now until we run out! The anti kettle sour never looked so good. While we've gotcha here, we're gonna add another shameless plug for our anniversary bash coming up in just a few! short! weeks! As you know, we're plannin' the usual good time flavors of beer, music, and merriment, but we'll also discounting a ton of merch for ya! We'll be retiring some items at the end of this year (to make room for more awesome things with our logo all up on), so be sure to check out Horatio's Tag Sale and Lemonade Stand over by the stage on the 24th! P.S. We already went and discounted these items in the online shop! For you! * Extremely publicly.
