In "Witch" Spookums Abound!

Howdy friends! We've got much ado about doin's, so let's do it to it and do it up right!

But first, a programming note - as of Tuesday, November 1st we will be switching to our winter hours!

And while we're on about Moderate Bummer News, there will be no cask this week, which I did warn you was gonna happen at some point, and honestly it's probably for the best to not have to think about cask what with all the candy that's happening this weekend anyway.

But! We must move forward, not backward! Upward, not forward! And always twirling, twirling toward new beer! Thassright, we've got a new beer on tap and it's on tap right now and there's actually kind of a neat story* behind this one! See, we've been encouraging (badgering) our friends at Four Star Farms to grow some galena because we think it's a cool hop and we wanted to see what the ol' New England terroir** might bring to the table for this particular hop and anyway they grew some this past year and since they only had a bit of it they decided to give it to us! Now, it was a bit of a learning experience for us on account of how these cool experimental hops were in "whole leaf" form and they showed up in a giant ridiculous brick (as opposed to the compact bags of pellets we're used to) and anyway we decided that the best thing for us to do would be to take a big chunk off that giant brick o' hops and chuck it in as the dry hop in a tasty lil' ESB and anyway it's called Trial Run and it's tasty as hell and you should drink some!

And in even more news, we've got some spooktacular new merch! More to the point, we've got some sweet new hoodies (and a limited number of sweet matching t shirts if that's more your speed) and also this year's flannels are in (and for you flannel fans out there, this year's flannels are on the lighter side - much more like a "medium weight shirt" instead of the "basically a coat, complete with side pockets" that we had last year) and anyway if you wanna get warm and cozy in style, now's your chance!

And plowin' right along into all the cool stuff what we gonna be doin' this weekend, this Thursday is Horror Movie Trivia! We'll be gettin' all spooked up on all the spooktacular spookums like that one creature with all the teeth and that haunted place and maybe that one guy who stabbed all those teens and anyway it's gonna be hella fun and there's gonna be prizes and good times galore and you should come hang out!

And speaking of spooktacular good times, we're gonna be doing beer and candy flights all dang weekend! The good times start on Thursday (also known as "gentleman's Friday") and continue through Monday (because it would be weird to stop doing it the day before halloween) and anyway the deal is that we painstakingly went through our entire draft list (except for the beer that came out today, that one is pending) and came up with two different candy pairings for each beer (one chocolate, one non chocolate) and we'll be servin' up some specially curated beer and candy flights (and/or candy pairings with full pours, but we're not doing "choose your own beer and candy flights" this year on account of how we don't want to make our bartenders hate us) and it's gonna be tasty times all weekend and you should come hang out!

And if that weren't enough to entice you out to our digs, we've got a full slate of spooktacular food popups on the roster as well! We've got Tres Latinas comin' by on Thursday and then El Pelon on Friday and Tubb's Donuts on Saturday Morning (Hocus Pocus theme!) followed by Matilda's Pastelitos on Saturday Afternoon and then we're roundin' out the weekend with Kuya's Cooking on Sunday (and also our regularly scheduled sushi class on Sunday and also Wednesday) and anyway if you're lookin' for tasty times then look no further because we're bringin' the eats all weekend!

And now, as we are wont to do, let's take a trip down, uh, future lane and check out all the cool stuff we got goin' on in the futuristic landscape of next week! And holy hell, we've got a lot of stuff going on - there's a fondue making class next Wednesday and I'm not entirely sure what that is but I must go and then on Thursday we've got Audio Triviality up in the house again and the theme is "Kings and Queens" (think Queens of the Stone Age, King Diamond, stuff like that) and that's gonna be fun as hell and then on Friday we're hosting a vinyl release and listening party for "Upon the Apex" by Rah Zen (as presented by Light of Day Records) and on Saturday we've got a Music Marketplace with a buncha cool vendors (including a coffee roaster in addition to all the cool music stuff and also a "vinyl summit" at some point in the day) and anyway the point is we've got hell of cool stuff on the docket for next week, but also there's a buncha candy to be had in the here and now so I'm gonna go have some candy now.

* There's also a story that involves some amount of crying, but we'll leave that one be.
** That's French for "dirt"

In Which the Spooktacular Times Ramp Up

Well hey there! We've got a whole buncha rootin'-tootin' sure-shootin' spooktacular good times lined up for all y'all (including, you guessed it, new beer!) so we're gonna grab the bull by the brass tacks and cut right to the jib!

And first on up since the barrel's already out of the bag on this one: new beer! This time around we figured we'd try something new, so we did a collab with a spooktacular local death metal band! OK fine, it's not exactly "uncharted waters" for us, but the beer is tasty as hell and the band (Pathogenic, by the way) is hella rad and also the beer was made to coincide with the release of their newest single! The beer (and also the song) is called Exiled from the Abyss and it (the beer, not the song) is a spooktacular lightish malt-focused amber ale that's hella easy drinking and it's out in cans on Friday which just so happens to coincide with October's Band Hangouts which features Pathogenic (more on that in a bit) and anyway it's tasty as heck and you should drink some!

And while we're on about Exiled from the Abyss, we should also mention that we have that very same beer on tap as this week's cask! We dry hopped the cask with some of the oh-so spooktacular Crystal from our friends at Four Star Farms and it's gonna be an interesting side-by-each because the original beer isn't dry hopped and anyway you'll be able to get a "snake peak" at the beer before it's officially released because that cask is gettin' tapped on Thursday! (also, as a "programming note," there won't be a cask next week because of Reasons. It will return the week after, though)

And since I was just talkin' about Band Hangouts, let's talk about Band Hangouts! If you've been around for a while, you know the drill already - we invite a bunch of cool local bands to come hang out and they set up merch tables and then... hang out! We put on a playlist of their music and sometimes there's a beer release (like this week), but that's about it! It's like going to a show, only without the show part, and you can actually talk to the band instead of shouting over the sound system at a venue while a line forms behind you. Anyway, that's all happening on Friday and in addition to Pathogenic (who we already mentioned) we're also hosting DBB and The Last King and Gannon and also Almarso World Flavor Kitchen is gonna be in the house servin' up L.A. Street Dogs!

To be honest, we've never heard of L.A. Street Dogs before, but the description starts with "bacon wrapped" and that's all *we* need to know

And then gettin' in to the weekend proper, we have several things happening and they're all gonna be pretty rad!

For starters, we decided to host our spooktacular Howl-O-Ween Dog Costume Contest all weekend! So dress up your pup(s) and bring 'em on by the beer garden and let 'em strut their spooktacular stuff (or just come look at all the cute dogs in costumes, we ain't gonna judge) and we'll be givin' prizes to the most spooktacular costumes and we're raising money for Animal Rescue League of Boston (who will also be onsite 12-3 on Saturday) and we've got food from Lala's on Saturday (which you already know is tasty as hell) and then Lobzter King on Sunday (and if you missed them last time you came by, you absolutely need to try their food because it's fantastic) and did I mention dogs in costumes?

I feel like I should emphasize the dogs in costumes. 

And. AND. We felt the need to cram even MORE stuff into Saturday so we're hosting the Ghastly Gala! There's gonna be a buncha spooktacular artists (namely Emily V. Keefe, Adam Cutler, and Sam Heimer) settin' up shop during the day and then in the evening we've got some live music from Vudu Sister and Crone Visions and it's gonna be completely a blast and you should come out!

And glancin' a bit farther forward to next week, we've got Horror Movie Trivia happening next Thursday and then we're also doing our spooktacular beer and candy pairing menu Thursday through Sunday if you've got a hankerin' for some sweet treats! And for those of you who ain't "in the know" on the beer and candy pairing thing, our intrepid brewers painstakingly taste through the entire* beer menu and come up with candy pairings for every beer (two per beer, actually - one chocolate and one fruity) and then we offer up a couple select** beer and candy flights for you to enjoy and it's a spooktacular time if we do say so ourselves and you should check it out!

* Well, the draft list anyway. By the time we get through that, we tend to be "about to barf" enough that the mere thought of coming up with pairings for the can/bottle menu is enough to make us want to puke our pants.
** We used to do this as an "a la carte" kind of thing, but it got kind of out of hand so now we've got the set choices.

In Which the (Benevolent) Beast is Unleashed

Well hello again! We've got some rootin' tootin' sure shootin' spooktacular good times for all y'all, so pull up an internet and let's get gettin'!

And first up on that ol' agenda is cask! It's been a minute since we've had back-to-back casks and we're stoked as heck that this week we're tappin' up new favorite Porcupine Pale! And since we like to "sweeten the deal" we dry hopped this cask with a spooktacular handful of house-favorite hop comet and anyway it's gonna be delicious and also on tap Thursday and you should come have some!

And speaking of beer, we've got a not-so-new barrel-aged beer back on draft! More to the point, we tapped up some Benevolent Beast and it's on tap right now and it's gonna be on draft until it kicks so come get beastly with us!

And movin' on into Weekend Fun Times, on Thursday we've got Simpsons trivia! We're done with the one-season-per-month thing, so this month we're back to Brewhouse of Horror! We're gonna be focusing on the spooktacular Halloween episodes and anyway it's gonna be fun and there's themed prizes and you should come play!

And then on Friday we ain't got no big digs goin' on, but we do have HotChix in the house and that's reason enough to celebrate, so come get some chicken!

And then on Saturday we've got Biscuitdrop in the house in the afternoon (from 2-6) and then in the evening we've got an open-to-the-public Shrek Disco which is definitely a normal thing that normal people do but also it sounds like a pretty good time so maybe you should come on out and figure out what in hell is happening with all that!

And then on Sunday we have Matilda's Pastelitos in the house from 2-6pm and also we've got live music courtesy of DnA's Evolution and The Endorphins and it's honestly gonna be a great way to while away a Sunday afternoon, so come hang out!

We have declared it SHREKTOBER

And then if you're the "plan ahead" type (which is suspect, what are you a cop?) next week we've got a bonsai class on Thursday and on Friday we have band hangouts featuring Pathogenic and DBB and The Last King and also it's the beer release for our collab with Pathogenic (an amber ale called Exiled From the Abyss, named after their upcoming single release) and also all the bands pitched in merch for a sweet raffle and also we've got our Ghastly Gala on Saturday featuring a buncha cool vendors and even more bands *and* we have our dog costume contest next weekend and anyway the point is that we've got a whole buncha cool stuff goin' on and you should come join us!

Pet the dogs. Drink some beers. Yell at the sky. Summon a demon. Whatever

In Which We Cling to the Last Warm Days of the Year With IPA and Live Music

Hi friends! We've got a whole mess o' spooktacular stuff for y'all comin' up this week, and since the weather's startin' to take a turn for the chilly we thought it might be nice to "hunker down" with a couple "old favorites" on the beer front and anyway, read on and check out what all we got goin' on!

And the first entry into that lineup o' spooktacular suds is cask! More to the point, this Thursday we'll be tappin' a cask of cask-times favorite Shut Up Kelly! There ain't much to be said about this cask what we ain't said already, so come on out and drink some!

And if cask ain't your bag (or if the cask runs out and you're busily looking around for some other "blast from the past" to drink, or maybe some third situation that I haven't thought of) we're bringin' back an old friend and that old friend is Wasted Life! Yes indeedy, good ol' Wasted Life IPA is gonna be back on draft (and in crowlers) startin' on Friday and pourin' 'til it kicks,* so come getcha some!

And if you're lookin' for fun things to do while you drink them tasty beers (and also the other 20 tasty beers we happen to have at the moment), we've gotcha covered! Things kick off on Thursday with some spooktacular Halloween Music Trivia! Matt's gonna be gettin' musical about ghosts 'n ghouls 'n general spookums, so come on out!

And then on Friday we've got a new-to-us popup gracin' the taproom and that's Lobzter King! Lobster is pretty much one of the perfect foods for pretending it's still summer (and let's be serious, we're all clinging to hope that there will be at least *one* more nice weekend before the Cold Times) and also it's tasty as hell in general, so come on out and give 'em a warm welcome!

And it's suppoed to be like 73 and sunny on Friday... sooo... come eat lobsters

And then on Saturday we have several things going on! We've got our friends from Light of Day Records comin' by for a vinyl popup shop in the afternoon (which will be maybe less-than-ideal for our personal budget, but also completely worth it)! And then in the afternoon we're hosting an album release party for our friends in The Electric Heaters who just released an album called "From the Film of the Same Name" which is a bunch of songs they recorded for (possibly nonexistent?) movies (and also the art style on the album cover may look a little... familiar to y'all) and if that weren't enough there's gonna be live music by the Heaters (duh) and also Fauxmenco and it's gonna be a tonna fun! And if all that weren't enough for you, we've also got Koselig Posto postin' up with some arancini in the evening and anyway at this point there's no reason for you to not come out, so come on out!

And movin' on into next week, on Tuesday we've got a spooktacular art class comin' through the taproom and that means sugar skulls! We've got Bridget (who conducted our pet portrait class) comin' through and we'll be paintin' up some ceramic sugar skulls and it's gonna be a good time! Get tickets here: Sugar Skull Paint Party

And then next Thursday we've got more Simpsons Trivia! I think we've made it through all the one-season-per-month months, so this month is back to the spooktacular Brewhouse of Horror theme and we're gearin' up to get spooky!

Oh also, we don't usually get into events for the following weekend but we thought you might want to know that somebody** is throwing a "Shrek disco" in our beer garden next Saturday and it's open to the public if you want to find out what exactly that would entail. (It's free, but there's a suggested donation that will go donated to a homeless shelter)
