Howdy-do, cats and kittens! We've finally shaken the meat sweats from last week and we're back in action for all your between-holidays needs! Warm and cozy space? Check. Somewhere you can hide out from all the nonsense going on in the real world? Check. Lack of windows so you don't realize it's already dark out pretty much no matter what time of day it is? Check. And on top of all that, we got some new beers and some tasty eats comin' your way! We may not be the biggest, but dang if we ain't the coziest Kickin' things off as always, we're doin' the weekend up right with a cask o' Oh My! We dry hopped the bejesus outta that bad boy with a boatload o' Comet and oh man it is gonna be ever so tasty! Give me that good ol' citrus and pine! As an added bonus we've got a "single hop" pale ale gettin' released this week that's made with Four Star's very own proprietary accidental hop blend! Long story short, the details are a bit sparse but there are some hop plants of unknown pedigree that got mixed in with their Teamaker order, so now we're playin' with wild cards! The hop blend is called Chaos (by us, at least) and it's got some hella interesting flavors that you ain't used to seein' comin' from a hop, so we encourage you to check this bad boy out! It looks all pretty and well-behaved in that glass, but trust me, there's a whirlwind of flavors goin' on all up in! And then on Saturday we've got Mr. Tamole comin' in and slingin' tamales and charro beans and esquites! There's nothin' like comfort food in the winter, and everything we've seen just looks hella hearty and flavorful! It's their first brewery popup, so be sure to come out and show them some love! Tamale party? Tamale party! But speaking of all that nonsense that's goin' on this time of year, it would be silly of us if we didn't issue a gentle reminder about all the cool crap we have with our logo on it (and, equally importantly, how stoked that Special Someone will be to get a soft-as-hell hoodie with a giant skull on it). Check out all this stuff we've got! We even bribed our lovely staff to model it for us! Lastly but not leastly, we decided on some winners for November's coloring contest! Way to color, ya turkeys! November Winner: "Giblet of Fire" @thehomopatrol. Good jorb! November runners up! Adequate job everybody!
Hello again and welcome to a very special gravy-themed blog post! Or rather, we're gonna talk about holiday hours a bit so's you can make your Gravy Day plans accordingly. ...but really there's not much to say - with the exception of The Holidays Themselves (i.e. Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day), we're keepin' normal-ass hours. So! That means we'll be here 'til eleven on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving (which we've come to know as Shitty Wednesday, largely for traffic-related reasons), and that's today unless you live in the future, so come on by! The traffic is sure to let up a bit if you sit around and drink beer for a while (even better, it's pretty unlikely that we'll be packed to the gills with people you went to high school with), plus you'll be able to buy the freshest possible Big Stupid Cans to show off to your family! Sounds like a win to me. Anyway, we'll also be open all day on Black Friday - and given our newly-expanded merch selection, you could easily make the case that coming to our taproom qualifies as "holiday shopping!" Or, if you're more of a family-oriented type and you need some new scenery for awkward conversations with people you only see twice a year, bring the whole gang! If you need to hide for a few hours during the long weekend, we've got you covered. But speaking of buying stuff, we're in the midst of upping our snack game, and for now that means meats! In addition to the delicious Kalahari Biltong that we already carry, we're beefin' up our meat menu with a buncha new goodies in a variety of animals and/or marinades! We've even got a bit o' budget beef for those of you who are a skosh strapped but still wanna snack! Jerky jerky jerky jerky! And gettin' back to business as usual, we're releasin' another new beer this week! A ways back the Boston Public Library approached us about doin' a special event with them and we decided to make a special beer for it and then we got so excited that we forgot to name it so it's called Library! It's a session IPA brewed with spelt for a nice bready backbone, plus a heapin' helpin' of some cool-ass hops that bring in loads of tropical fruit and berry flavors, and a touch of herbal spiciness! We're pretty delighted with it, so come on by and get your swig on! A perfect companion to our own in-house library you may or may not have ever been aware of! Speaking of beers, The Holiday is wreaking a minor amount of havoc on our cask schedule, so we'll be switchin' things up a bit. Instead of tappin' up some casks on Wednesday and Saturday like we been doin' as of late, this week we're puttin' on a cask of Summoner startin' on Friday! This is the same beer and the same dry hops as last week, and that was pretty unanimously declared by our staff to be the best cask we ever done filled, so if you're a cask fan you may wanna come getcha some before it disappears! You're welcome, Erica!
Hi kids! I hope you're ready for some good old fashioned good news about fun times, because we got it in spades this week! For starters, we added two new draft lines this week, which is probably for the best because we've also got two new beers! Well, technically one of them is the return of a long-awaited* old favorite, but we ain't here to split hairs nosiree. Now that's a draft list! First up is our Christmas beer: El Pulpo Chocolate Orange Imperial Stout! We haven't had a sip since it kicked last year, and oh buy are we excited to have him back. We were gonna wait until closer to Thanksgiving to release this bad boy but we got all excited and now you can have some! And of course it still comes with a Terry's chocolate orange paring! Speaking of imperial stouts, it behooves us to mention that over this past weekend we quietly** released another dang ol' imperial stout! It's an oatmeal stout and it's called Uptown and we made it in collaboration with Bonetown Burgers and holy crap it's so good you guys! It's okay, we also started quietly singing "Uptown Girl" to ourselves. Anyway, getting back to this coming weekend, we felt like all these boozy beers needed a bit o' balance, so we brewed up a teeny tiny (ish) table beer! You may not need a quencher to beat the heat, but we still have a soft spot for somethin' that'll carry us through a good long session, so we made this thing! It's called Armchair (for no real reason)! It can be your "cool down" beer between them holiday meals and your couch nap. On top of all them new beers, we're tappin' up some casks just like normal times! We're startin' off with some Summoner - dry hopped with Masscade - and it's gettin' followed up by some more Mo'Biscuits! for those of you who missed the boat the first time around. And they're both perfect for gettin' your color on. And if you're the type who also likes to eat food in addition to drinking beer, we've got even more good news for you! Buenas Empanadas is swingin' through on Saturday for all your savory empanada needs! Come by from 3ish to 9ish and say hello! Soon. And then for a sweet treat to round out the weekend eats, Top Shelf Cookies is comin' by on Sunday to pair up with all them new beers! Woo! Think of it as a "test run" for that "pie eating contest" you have with yourself every Thanksgiving. * Hi Dan!
** Well, quietly for us, anyway. There were at most three accordions, two trumpets, and one laser light show. Well hello there! I hope you came here to hear a bunch about new merch, because we got new merch for days (and, equally importantly, we got some for them cold winter nights). We got flannels, we got lunch boxes, we got thermals (with some sweet matching glassware!), we got all* your dang ol' merch needs covered 'round here so why don't you have yourself a gander! (And by the way, since most of these were made in fairly limited quanitity, they'll be Taproom Only to start off with. And then after Thanksgiving the remaining stock will also be available in our online shop, which already has some sweet stuff in it!) These here thermals and shaker pints are full of benevolent monster madness, and we're only doing one print run for the holiday season! Being based in New England, we felt a gaping hole in our merch wall without flannels hangin'. So we bought a whole bunch (50ish?) for you dudes and dudettes in all kinds of fun plaids! And they are. the. coziest. It's been so hard to keep these under wraps, you guys. We'd like to give a huge shoutout to longtime Friend of the Brewery: Victor "Wall of Adequacy" Prizzio for creating this badass artwork of Horatio and El Pulpo! These here lunchboxes are two sided and just so happen to hold our Big Stupid Cans perfectly. (Just sayin') And if hella new merch weren't enough for ya, we got good times lined up all weekend! First off, for those of you whose "weekend" starts circa midweek, we got a cask o' Mo'Biscuits comin' out the beer engine! Starting right now! Good ol' Mo has been a favorite around these parts, and it sure as heck doesn't disappoint when it's served up English-style. And for those of you who are otherwise occupied this week - never you worry, 'cuz we got another one goin' on next week! You roasty, nutty, crisp-as-hell treat, you. Then on Friday we got good times both on-site and off! Here at Home Base we have our friends from Formaggio Kitchen swingin' back through wit summa dat cheesy goodness! They'll be bringing a selection of cheeses and jam and honey to pair with a few of our beers, so come grab a plate and a flight from 6-10pm! A delicious time was had by all the last time we had them over for treats, so come on by and get your cheese on! So much dairy-based goodness coming your way. And if you're in more of a tinkerin' mood than a snackin' mood, we'll be pouring samples at Beer & Gears at the MIT Museum on Friday evening! We may be a touch light on the particulars of this particular event, but as we understand it, it's gonna be a bunch of people making Rube-Goldberg-esque machines that will then combine to form the craziest contraption of all, not unlike some sort of rickety, low-rent Voltron. And if that don't sound like fun to you, then you may well be beyond hope. Because who doesn't love to drink and tinker? Then on Saturday we're tappin' up a cask of Wasted Life! Just like old times! And this time around we dry hopped that bad mamma jamma with some fun fruity hops from German stock: Mandarina Bavaria and Hull Melon! Stoked! Also on Saturday, we're relaunchin' our off-site growler sales program at Pemberton Farms! And there's really no better way to kick something off than with beer and cheese, so we're doing a beer and cheese tasting! We'll be there slingin' samples for sippin' and cheese bits for noshin' from five 'til seven, so come on by and say hi! And from here on out, super fresh growlers will be delivered every Wednesday! And as an endcap to this action-packed weekend, we've got Boston Bonbon back in the house on Sunday from 12-3 with the sweet treats that can't be beat! They've concocted some fun cookie pairings for our beers like Strawberry Jelly x Bullhead, Dutch Apple x Mo'Biscuits, and Maple Bacon x Oh My! IPA! Did we mention that they'll be macaron-donut hybrids? They're bringing macaron-donut hybrids. *Except footie pajamas, because those were like eighty bucks each.
